Act 1 is a vertical climb outside the fortress filled with bumpers, plasma orbs that the player orbits until they jump off, and banners depicting the emblems of Dr. Eggman and the Hard-Boiled Heavies. Dotted around certain places are rocket cars piloted by Eggrobos that will jet forward once the player jumps in, accelerating wildly until they crash into a wall. There are also twin sets of poles that produce electricity, and while normally harmful, they can harmlessly magnetize the player if they have a Lightning Shield. Additionally, there's a place with an elevator and spikes on it, making it possible to be crushed.

Act 2 is set inside the giant fortress itself, decorated with stained glass windows depicting the Hard-Boiled Heavies and the Chaos Emeralds. Upon reaching a certain point, things become nonlinear as the player chooses to go through four areas in any order they choose. By this point, Eggman has mastered control of the Phantom Ruby, and has used its power to create portals all around the fortress that lead to different places. Early in the act, the stage becomes nonlinear as the player chooses to go through four areas of the act in any order they choose. Once all four areas have been cleared, a portal appears to send the player to the final boss (really a separate act similar to the end of Lava Reef Zone), stopping the timer until the player reaches the boss (at which point it resets). Upon defeating the final boss, the zone explodes and the heroes will make their escape; should Sonic (or Knuckles with "& Knuckles" mode enabled) have all the Chaos Emeralds, however, the Phantom Ruby will react and send Sonic, Eggman and the Heavy King to the Egg Reverie Zone.

Metallic Madness Zone | Egg Reverie Zone

Titanic Monarch Zone is the twelfth and final Zone of Sonic Mania, and is a brand new original Zone. It is the final stronghold of Dr. Eggman and the Hard-Boiled Heavies, modelled to resemble a fusion of Eggman and the Heavy King; even the Zone's name is synonymous with "Heavy King".

Overview

Act 2 is set inside the giant fortress itself, decorated with stained-glass windows depicting the Hard-Boiled Heavies, Eggman, the Chaos Emeralds, and the Phantom Ruby.

This Zone is shown to have been built on the Little Planet, as it follows Metallic Madness Zone and the ending sequence shows the heroes escaping and watching the fortress explode on Little Planet's surface.

Encore Mode

In Encore Mode, Titanic Monarch Zone's foreground takes on a green and cream colour scheme, and the cyan background in Act 1 becomes a pinkish colour.

After defeating the Phantom Egg, a different ending will play depending on whether or not the player has all the Chaos Emeralds. If the player does not have all the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman will sneak away with the heroes chasing after him, and the Heavy King will reclaim the Phantom Ruby. If the player has all the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman will attempt to escape as the Phantom Ruby begins to devour the entire Zone, but his escape is foiled by the heroes in their Super forms.
