Forum topic me do

This page is probably doing too much - it's covering the creature and the mechanics of Sonic Adventure (2), and while it's already marked for cleanup, I suspect it needs splitting. My gut instinct is to make "A-Life" pages for SA1, SA2 and SA2B/SADX since that's more "gameplay" than "character", but you may have other ideas.

I noticed specifically that Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast isn't covered very well online. Yes a lot of it is the same as on GameCube, but it's not exactly the same. This Chao Secret Book is probably a better foundation for SA1.

I've typed "chao" too many times today -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:00, 3 October 2023 (EDT)

There's already a separate page for the Chao mechanics: Chao raising. It's really old compared to the main Chao page and is itself also marked for cleanup. If you want a page to move the mechanics to, you've got that one; even rename the page if necessary. --BSonirachi (talk) 14:43, 3 October 2023 (EDT)
Wow that is old, and hidden.
A brief skim of the manuals suggest it was always called "A-Life", so I've made an executive decision: A-Life (Sonic Adventure) and A-Life (Sonic Adventure 2).
Currently making the assumption there's enough of a difference in SA2 to justify its own page - I'm going to guess there's a lot of overlap (and SADX is another issue), but it's 11pm on a Tuesday and thinking isn't top of mind -Black Squirrel (talk) 18:04, 3 October 2023 (EDT)
Would it be better to have common things shared across all versions of the "A-Life" system on one page (e.g. conception and the basics), and all the game-specific stuff be sub-pages so information doesn't get repeated? Something like A-Life/Sonic Adventure and A-Life/Sonic Adventure 2? Or make them sub-pages of their respective games for Omni links? --BSonirachi (talk) 23:54, 3 October 2023 (EDT)
Can do - whatever feels best -Black Squirrel (talk) 03:07, 4 October 2023 (EDT)

Actually come to think of it, I don't think we can have a general "A-Life" page on Sonic Retro, mostly because NiGHTS also has one (and also other future Sega projects could implement an A-Life system if they wanted to (or indeed past ones we don't know about!)). It would have to be a generic "this is what 'artifical life' means" page on Sega Retro or something.

In fact, I don't think Christmas NiGHTS' "Sonic into Dreams" disables the A-Life system, which means Sonic could manipulate Nightopians before he could manipulate Chao. Maybe. -Black Squirrel (talk) 08:54, 4 October 2023 (EDT)
