Stego is a scrapped badnik, originally intended to be used in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was discovered in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Simon Wai" prototype by Esrael.

The badnik would have appeared in Hidden Palace Zone, but the level and the Badnik were both eventually cut from the game. Stego can be found in the Simon Wai prototype ROM through hacking. The hex address for the Stego sprite is at offset $7AD18. This badnik's art was later redrawn to use Sonic's colour pallet; this updated artwork was found in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (beta 4) at offset $84BE4.
