The Spike (スパイク) is one of Dark Gaia's minions that appears in the night stages of Sonic Unleashed, but only in the Wii/PS2 version.

Overview
These enemies act as time bombs, and will start approaching when Sonic comes near. When he touches them, they begin to grow for about seven seconds and will eventually self-destruct. These enemies have high defenses and lots of health, which usually prevents the player from taking them out before they can self-destruct. As a Werehog, Sonic can pick these enemies up and use them as weapons by throwing them into other enemies. This makes Spike the only enemy that can inflict damage to other enemies.
