Sonic the Hedgehog CD build v0.02, referred to as CD Sonic the Hedgehog on the title screen, is the earliest known prototype of Sonic the Hedgehog CD for the Sega Mega-CD produced on December 4th, 1992, predating the 510 prototype by five months.

History

This prototype was originally featured at the Yuusei Sega World event in 1992, and was the first public appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog CD worldwide. The prototype was also used as an early preview for various magazines in the months following the event.[1]

The prototype was discovered and acquired by drx of Hidden Palace in conjunction with The Cutting Room Floor, along with several other prototypes of Sonic CD and other Sonic games, and dumped as part of "Sonic Month 2019" from October to November 2019[2]. This prototype, along with the other Sonic CD prototypes, was released to the public on October 26, 2019.
