The PC versions have a Sega logo, lifted from older Mega Drive games. It does not animate and there is no sound effect.

The title screen is rendered at a higher resolution, and features an updated copyright message. Sonic fades in from a blue screen rather than a black one.

While the animated introduction is rendered at the same size as the Mega-CD version, on Windows the full video is rendered, with more colours and frames of animation. The quality does not match up to the version seen in Sonic Jam two years later, but it was the highest quality version available at the time.

Loading times are more of a problem on Windows. Loading screens, depicting a stylised version of little planet, interrupt most screen changes in the game.

Special stages also render at a higher resolution
