Back to: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (pre-beta)/Comparisons.

Hidden Palace Zone has been partially removed in this prototype and can only be accessed through hacking. Unlike the final game, data for the art and objects still exist. Interestingly, this Zone still uses Mystic Cave Zone's 2-player theme despite the unused track (10) being in this build.

Unfortunately, simply forcing the level to load will make the game crash on a purple screen. This is due to the first entry in the Zone's PLC list pointing to Oil Ocean Zone block data.[1]

However, by disabling Hidden Palace's first PLC it is possible to actually load the Zone. As shown here, it is a corrupted mess as the basic data has already been deleted, though not to the extent of later prototypes.[2]

Stegway is not normally found in the Zone, but it can be found in the Zone's debug object listing.
