Sonic the Hedgehog (promotional comic)

Sonic the Hedgehog (Promotional Comic) was a small comic which was sold in stores, but pages of it were also included in various magazines such as Disney Adventures, the October 1991 issue of Electronic Monthly, and the May/June 1992 issue of Sega Visions. The comic was printed in fall of 1991 to promote the release of the original Sonic the Hedgehog. Elements of the story of the comic were used in both Sonic the Comic and Archies Comics Sonic the Hedgehog.

Story

Sonic is shown running from Robotnik and destroying Badniks which have trapped his friends. When he looks back to see the fleeing badniks he plummets into a Spike pit but catches onto a swinging platform in the nick of time. Sonic's friends start to plead with Sonic to warn Dr. Ovi Kintobor but Sonic tells them that he is actually Robotnik. He then tells his friends a story of how he burrowed into Ovi's underground lair (as a brown hedgehog) and finds him using a machine called R.O.C.C. to trap evil energy in the Chaos Emeralds which he will then destroy to free the land from evil. Unfortunately Robotnik drops a soda onto the machine while holding a boiled egg and transforms to Robotnik. After telling them this he proceeds to search for Robotnik in order to free his friends.
