Sonic the Hedgehog: Sonic's Shoes Blues is a story book, written for children ages 4 through 8. It is set in the same universe as SatAM.
Summary
Sonic wakes up in the morning, ready to face another day of adventure, fighting Dr. Robotnik and crew in Robotropolis. He's stopped in his tracks when he notices that the unthinkable has happened - he can't find his supercool red sneakers!
After asking around, and frantically searching his mess of a room, he still can't find them. So he calls the Freedom Fighters to a meeting, where he tells them the bad news - and then quickly accuses one of them of taking his shoes!
Hurt by Sonic's accusation, the Freedom Fighters go off to fight Robotnik and look for Muttski, Uncle Chuck and Sally's father on their own. Sonic realises that he acted rashly and follows them only to find that they've been captured in the middle of an attempt to plug up the smokestack of one of Robotnik's pollution-spewing factories.
Sonic, apologetic, showers his Freedom Fighter friends with gifts, right there in Robotropolis, while they are still ensnared. At first they are agape at this erratic behaviour, but it soon becomes clear that Sonic is being clever - he uses some of the gifts to free them and complete their mission at the same time.
Back at Knothole, Sonic reveals that he finally found his shoes - they were lost amongst the mess of his room all along. He admits to having a learnt a lesson about housecleaning, and makes one final gift of his shoes, to Tails, who is happy to have his hero's hand-me-downs.
