Two types of cutscenes were planned to be featured in the game, according to the Micheal Kosaka game script.
The first type of cutscene would be triggered by various events, like collecting monitors. These types of cutscenes would display a characters head on the top of the screen followed by a text bubble giving encouragement, or discouragement.
The second type of cutscene would be triggered when a level is completed and would incorporate full animation.
In Level cutscenes
Playable Characters
Sonic
During the beginning of the game Sonic will say one of the following phrases:
- Let's go!
- Time to jam!
- No problemo!
- It's all-pro time!
- No rookies allowed!
- Let's go get it!
- Time's a wastin!
- Time to rocket!
- Let's kick some Robuttnik!
- Lemme at 'em!
- Soup's on!
- Hyper!
- Time for serious action!
- Strap in!
- Let's go!
- Are you listening?!
- Hoome stretch!
- Cranial overload!
- Bottom of the ninth!
When only one ring remains Sonic will say one of the following phrases:
- Hurtin!
- Check the ring situation!
- On the edge!
- On the ropes!
Tails
When a ring monitor is collected he will say one of the following phrases:
- Way to go!
- Ring time!
- I love rings!
- B-R-R-Ring!
Knuckles
When a invincibility monitor is collected Knuckles will say one of the following phrases:
- Cool trick!
- Can't touch this!
- Motor on!
- Wacky time!
Sally
When a 1-up monitor is picked up Sally will say one of the following phrases:
- Very cool!
- Terrific!
- Alright!
- Yes!
Tiara
When the score counter goes over 50,000 points Tiara will say one of the following phrases:
- Awesome!
- Yow!
- So very cool!
- Groovy!
Bunnie Rabbot
When the time clock reaches 9:00 the Bunnie Rabbot will say one of the following phrases:
- Hurry up!
- Time's a wastin!
- Step on it!
- Watch the clock!
Nonplayable Characters
King Cyberooski
When 100 rings are collected the King will will say one of the following phrases:
- Impressive!
- Fortuitous!
- Richly deserved!
- Most splendid!
Swatbot
When approaching the end level boss a Swatbot will say one of the following phrases:
- Alert! Alert!
- Danger ahead!
- Condition: red!
- Intruder alert!
- Warning! Warning!
- Notify Robotnik immediately!
Robotnik
When Sonic dies Robotnik will say one of the following phrases:
- Too bad!
- Try again!
- Boo hoo!
- So sad!
- A shame!
- Tsk! tsk!
- Pity!
- Bad luck!
End Level Cutscenes
Playable Characters
Sonic
When completing a act 1 or 2 Sonic poses, legs crossed, with one hand on his hip and waving his finger on his other hand.
Tails
When completing act 1 or 2 Tails holds his fist in the air.
Rescue celebration
When being rescued at the end of level 1 they high 5 each other while jumping.
Knuckles
When completing act 1 or 2 Knuckles has some Karate pose.
Rescue celebration
When being rescued at the end of level 2 Knuckles and Sonic spin dash and jump to each other and fireworks emit as the impact is close.
Bunnie Rabbot
When completing act 1 or 2 Bunnie jumps into a flying side kick pose.
Rescue celebration
When being rescued at the end of level 3 Sonic offers Bunnie a gimme five pose, Bunnie hits him and he spins around and lands dizzy.
Sally
When completing act 1 or 2 Sally poses similar to Vanna white with one hand on her hip and the other hand out.
Rescue celebration
When being rescued at the end of level 4 Sally kisses Sonic and he holds his cheek and glares at her. She then turns away folding her arms snobishly.
Tiara
When completing act 1 or 2 sparks emit from Tiara's fingertips.
Rescue celebration
When being rescued at the end of level 5, Tiara hugs Sonic and he turns red, Sally walks in and folds her arms and taps her foot. Tiara lets him go then Sally walks away, shortly after she walks away too. Sonic looks both ways. Whichever character you run after is the character you can play as in the next level.
Non-playable characters
Antoine
It's not clear where this is used, but the images were included in the script. It looks like Antoine try to give Sonic a high five but slips instead.
