It was revealed at the "Gotta Go Fast" Sonic panel at SXSW in March 2018 with some concept art and a teaser trailer. It has been confirmed to not feature dialogue; every plot element will be conveyed using visual clues.

Synopsis

Part 1: Sonic Returns

Original airdate: 2018-03-30

The series begins with Sonic the Hedgehog reappearing in the jungle of Angel Island after his adventure in Sonic Forces, only to discover there are holes in the ground. While inspecting one of the holes, Dr. Eggman flies overhead with a capsule full of Flickies in tow. With little time to spare, Sonic speeds through the jungle.

Coming to a clearing, he finds the capsule and proceeds to walk casually towards it, only to set off a chain of hidden spike traps. He manages to reach the capsule and set the Flickies free. However, it turns out that the capsule was a trap, and Sonic is pushed off the capsule and is caught with his leg around a noose as the capsule transforms into a time bomb, with Eggman showing up to mock the hedgehog.

Sonic comes up with an idea. He pulls out the green Chaos Emerald, and Eggman, naturally, tries to snatch it away from him, and ends up getting his leg caught in a second noose trap. Trapped together, Sonic and Eggman fight over the Emerald, and Sonic sets himself free by cutting his rope with a spin attack. As the hedgehog tries to leave Eggman to be blown up, the doctor pulls a puppy dog expression, to which a dismayed Sonic reluctantly agrees to help him.

A small device falls from Eggman's pocket which Sonic picks up. It then displays the current status of the other six Chaos Emeralds, with Eggman having four of them, and the red and grey Emeralds still out there somewhere, and Eggman planning on taking Sonic's emerald for himself. After seeing this, Sonic punches the time bomb, taking seven seconds away from the timer, and runs away, leaving Eggman alone with the bomb as it detonates.

After the credits, an old foe awaits in a forest filled with wreckage...

Part 2: Sonic and Tails

Original airdate: 2018-04-30

The episode opens with Miles "Tails" Prower making adjustments to the Tornado, when Sonic speeds past and appears on top of the Tornado's wings. The hedgehog passes him the device which he stole from Eggman, which informs Tails of the status of the Chaos Emeralds and reveals the location of the red one to be nearby. Tremors are suddenly felt, and Sonic sees smoke billowing from the jungle which he proceeds to check out, leaving Tails behind.

These tremors were, of course, Eggman's doing, as he is drilling in the earth for the Chaos Emerald. Sonic shows up behind him to take him out, only for the doctor to whack the hedgehog and send him flying in a shower of Rings. Sonic lands face-first in the sand besides Tails, to which the fox offers his hand. Back in the jungle, Eggman continues to drill for the Emerald with little success, only for Sonic to return for another round, and this time Tails is attacking the doctor as well.

The heroic duo surround Eggman and proceed to spin attack his drills. Under pressure, Eggman cranks the drills to full power and attempts to drive one of them into Sonic. Tails, seeing the drill, swoops in and saves Sonic, and then flings Sonic right through the cockpit at full force, causing it to explode and send Eggman flying. Sonic and Tails celebrate their victory with a fist bump, but then Tails notices the red Chaos Emerald buried in a dirt mound. The heroes now have two of the powerful gems.

After the credits, Eggman lands in the sand and pulls out his computer to watch a live feed of Knuckles the Echidna carrying the Master Emerald through the jungle coming from a spy camera hidden in a Monkey Dude's eye. Eggman dances on the spot as this could be his chance, and as his luck would have it, he landed right next to the Tornado, putting a devilish grin on his face.
