Stories

GETTING A LITTLE BOULDER PART ONE of...er...ONE

The issue begins on a beach with Sonic the Hedgehog fighting with Dr. Eggman, who is piloting a mech. Sonic mocks Eggman as he zips up the mech to his cockpit, with Eggman critiquing Sonic's statement. Miles "Tails" Prower appears, joking that Sonic started without him. The two evade the mech's attacks, with Tails commenting on its build and asking Eggman what the output of the primary drive is. Eggman replies, stating that it's about 1.21 gigawatts, prompting Tails to exclaim "Great Scott!", a reference to Back to the Future.[2] Knuckles the Echidna arrives, announcing his presence on the scene, before immediately being stomped into the ground by the mech's foot. Amy Rose is introduced next and helps to pull Knuckles out of the ground. The four pull off a coordinated attack, with Amy tossing her Piko Piko Hammer at one of the mech's knees, Knuckles punching the other, and with Sonic and Tails smashing into the front of its torso. The team congratulate themselves for knocking it into the water, only to see that it is performing a backstroke to get to Eggman's base.

As this is happening, Sticks the Badger runs from a forest toward the group, screaming about an emergency alert. Sonic assures her that they already dealt with Eggman. Sticks questions Sonic using her name as a logo, which Sonic points out is just a first issue gimmick and that regular lettering will return in the following month's issue. Sticks accepts this before sharing that Tails' house has been robbed. Tails asks what was stolen, listing off various tools and items, and Sticks reiterates that Tails' house was stolen via the next panel. The next panel shows that Tails' house was quite literally stolen, with only the dug ground under the home and some accompanying structures remaining. Sticks informs the others that a cyborg rock golem came out of the ground and walked away, carrying Tails' house on its head. The team quickly suspect that the "golem" is a mech of Eggman's, and begin working on a plan to defeat the mech and return Tails' home without damaging it. Sticks then begins sniffing the ground, leading Sonic and Tails to comment to each other about Sticks' talents, but she reveals to them that she just thought the grass smelled nice and was actually following giant footprints in the ground.

The team then spots the golem in the distance. Tails flies up to his house and confirms that everything is intact. Sonic tells the others to get ready for an ambush where Tails' house was, so that he can get the golem's attention and bring it back. Over at the lot, Amy attempts to explain the plan to Knuckles, who fails to grasp that the golem isn't at their physical location. Frustrated, Amy asks Knuckles to "try to actually think for the next five minutes" and walks away, angering Knuckles. Sonic successfully brings the golem over and the ambush begins, with each character's attack crumbling away at the stones making up the golem. It falls over, placing Tails' home back to where it was initially.

The next day at Eggman's lair, Eggman demands that Cubot hurry and answer a doorbell. Cubot answers the door to see an angry Knuckles, who asks if Eggman wants to team up.

Off Panel

The off panel features Sonic introducing the reader to the book, advertising new friends, new adventures, and new neckwear, to his surprise. Sonic points out that the others can't copy him and his new scarf, but they're all set in their decision. Sonic then focuses on Sticks, asking if she's using tinfoil as a scarf. She replies that it's so no one can hear her words before they get out of her mouth, then seemingly grows frustrated realizing that her words have been heard. Sonic then addresses the reader, stating that it's not about the new clothes and is instead about new experiences. Sonic asks the reader what kind of experiences they want to see happen in the book, requesting letters, e-mails, and Tweets. A box provides a way to contact Archie Comics via e-mail, a hashtag to be used on Twitter, and a physical address to send letters to. Eggman then appears with a scarf, aggrandizing how it affects his appearance, with Sonic screaming that it isn't helping.
