Sonic Adventure 2 (The Trial) for the Sega Dreamcast was a free demo given away when you bought Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast. It included one level [City Escape] for Sonic Adventure 2 packaged with Phantasy Star Online which differs in several ways from the final version; most notable was the fact that Sonic was still wearing his original trademark shoes. It wasn't until a few months before the retail release of Sonic Adventure 2 that Sonic Team revealed a merchandising deal with Soap Shoes. Another somewhat major change in the demo was a different script for the opening Helicopter Escape sequence. Most interesting is the fact that, in the original demo, one of the pilots actually swore; as Sonic made his escape, one of the pilots exclaimed "What the hell?" - by the time the finished game was released, this line was changed to "What in the world?". Other changes in the demo include a different logo, different road-side billboards, different sound effects, looser controls and physics, and an instrumental version of the song, Escape from the City..
