Sonic 1 with Redbook Audio is a ROM hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive by Team Evanesco, a group that includes theocas and Iron Sonic. The hack replaces the FM-synthesised music of the original game with CD audio (also known as the Red Book standard) tracks for each zone, similar to Sonic the Hedgehog CD. It does this by by using the Sega CD in Mode 1, a little-known and -used mode that runs code from a regular cartridge but uses the Sega CD hardware for audio. The user must provide an audio CD whose tracks correspond to particular Zones or gameplay events (see below), and the music thereon is then accessed by the game itself running from the cartridge ROM.
Note: In order to play this hack, you must have the latest version of Kega Fusion and Sega CD BIOS files, and must set the option "CartBootEnabled" to 1 in Kega's .ini (settings/options) file.
