Story from US and EU manuals

File:S&K MD US SonicJam manual.pdf The last time Sonic and Robotnik went head-to-head, Sonic blasted Robotnik's Death Egg in smithereens. The explosion heaved Sonic deep into Floating Island's Mushroom Hills!

Sonic knows that many Emeralds, including the Master Emerald, are hidden somewhere on Floating Island. He bets this Knuckles character knows where they are! Sonic can't let Robotnik get his hands on the Master Emerald. He'd have Death Egg fuel forever -- and Floating Island would be destroyed!

Now Sonic's got two problems. How to protect the Master Emerald? And how to keep Knuckles off his back? He'll have to deal with that wild echidna right away!

Knuckles has problems, too. As Guardian of Floating Island and all the emeralds, Knuckles has a mission -- to wage war on all invaders. Whoever threw that bomb is in DEEP trouble. Knuckles is ready with tricks, traps and bare-fisted attacks to keep Floating Island safe.

Sonic's not taking any changes. Neither is Knuckles! But while they're going the rounds with each other, who's stopping Dr. Robotnik? Could this be the end of Floating Island?

Sonic has once again caused Dr. Eggman's giant fortress that he tried to release into space, the Death Egg, to fall towards the earth.

Then, when Sonic threw himself out into the sky, the winds swept him over into a certain forest overgrown with giant mushrooms, deep inside the "floating island."

Although Sonic checked to see the Death Egg collide from the skies into the island's volcano, things were still far from peaceful.
Because it was only a matter of time for the Death Egg, which is completely intact, to be revived by Dr. Eggman.

Resolved once more, when Sonic tried to start running to get to the Death Egg... Knuckle appeared from a door hidden in a thicket and disappeared into the forest while carefully examining the vicinity.

Waiting for Knuckle's presence to disappear, when Sonic pressed what looked like a switch in front of that door, it quickly opened, the inside overflowing with dazzling light.
Then, what reflected in Sonic's eyes as he peeked through the door was a sparkling special ring, the "Super Ring."

"What could this ring be...?"
Sonic could not resist his curiosity and the moment his hand touched this mysterious Super Ring... Sonic was blown into an unfamiliar room along with a shrill sound.

That room was a great hall he had never seen before.
The great hall had not a single speck of dust, and an altar with a solemn atmosphere drifting around it built in it.
As soon as Sonic looked up at the altar, he spontaneously let out a sound of astonishment.
In the center of the altar, a huge Chaos Emerald that one could naturally call the "Master Emerald" was enshrined.

What on earth is this altar?
What exactly is Knuckle doing here?

The hidden mystery of the legendary "floating island" and Dr. Eggman's conspiracy!
As well as Sonic's confrontation with his greatest rival, Knuckle!

That's right, the adventure of Sonic the Hedgehog has only just begun!
