Sir Lancelot

Sir Lancelot, the Knight of the Lake, is an alternate reality version of Shadow the Hedgehog encountered by Sonic during Sonic and the Black Knight. According to Caliburn, Lancelot is the strongest of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table, and the one closest to King Arthur himself. His weapon of choice is Arondight, a blade which is said to never lose its edge.

Overview

In the opening cutscene of Sonic and the Black Knight, King Arthur dispatches Sir Percival, Sir Gawain, and Sir Lancelot to hunt down and kill Sonic and Merlina. Lancelot is the first to find the blue hedgehog, and confronts him in Deep Woods as Sonic seeks out Nimue, Lady of the Lake. The knight challenges Sonic to a duel, and Caliburn accepts on his behalf, despite the blue hedgehog's protests.

Sonic manages to defeat the Knight of the Lake in battle, but according to the sacred sword, the victory came about through "mere luck". Although Sonic takes Lancelot's sword, Arondight, the knight does not give up his mission. While Sonic battles King Arthur on Faraway Avalon, the Knights of the Round Table corner Merlina within Camelot Castle, before she reveals herself as the Dark Queen. In order to save the Grand Kingdom from Merlina's vision of magical stasis, the Knights team up with Sonic and Nimue to activate four enchanted stones; Lancelot speeds off towards the one in Shrouded Forest.

During Sonic and Merlina's final confrontation in Dark Hollow, the Wizard reveals that the rivalry between Lancelot and Gawain is to be one of the ultimate causes of the Kingdom's ruin, and thus the whole reason for her intricate scheme to acquire the Scabbard of Excalibur in the first place.

Gameplay

Lancelot's style of fighting is the closest to Sonic's. Although he is not able to move and strike at the same time. His aerial attacks are mostly 360 degree spins. He can also use homing attack like Shadow to cross short distances; a somewhat useful tactic in "Don't Touch The Ground" missions.

His Soul Gauge move, Chaos Punishment, has him warping to an enemy then delivering a quick strike, when the sword Ddraig Goch is aquired his attack changes Knight of Chaos, this move is basically Chaos Blast and as such destroys many enemies at once. He can use this move on the ground or in the air. He is the only character who can activate the soul surge "super speed" in the air.

Trivia

• In the real-world King Arthur /Holy Grail legends, Sir Lancelot was the adopted son of Nimue, and the father of Sir Galahad.
• Curiously, Lancelot uses the same hoverskates as Shadow (shown in the cutscene before Knight's Passage), despite the Grand Kingdom seeming to lack high technology.
• Defeating Lancelot unlocks Shadow in the multi-player mode
