Newtron, called Meleon (メレオン) in the Japanese manual, is a badnik that appears in Green Hill Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog. There are two types of Newtron - one is green, stays still and shoots a bomb at you, though eventually disappearing, while the blue type drops to the ground and slowly follows Sonic. Both are not very tough to get past. The shooting type also appears in Jungle Zone in the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog.

In the 8-bit version of Sonic 2 Newtron makes a return appearance in Underground Zone, Sky High Zone, and Green Hills Zone. It is invisible but turns visible long enough to shoot a projectile.

Like many badniks from the classic games, Neutron reappears in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, in Splash Hill Zone.
