Jungle Zone boss
Game: Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
Level: Jungle Zone
Hits to defeat: 8

The Jungle Zone boss is the third boss of the 8-bit versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, fought at the end of Jungle Zone.

Strategy

Jungle Zone's fight with Dr. Eggman sees the Egg Mobile depositing rolling bombs at Sonic's feet. Taking place on a U-shaped vine platform, Sonic must hop over the black munitions, hitting Eggman when he dips down at the side of the screen to drop a new bomb. The gravest difficulty in this fight tends to arise when Sonic rebounds after hitting Robotnik's module, as it can be hard to avoid landing right in the path (or on top of) one of the bombs. On top of this, the uneven shape of the vine platform makes control difficult.

The bottomless pits off the edge of the vine must be avoided too; it's all too easy to lose a life even after the boss has been defeated, by misjudging the jump off to the right and failing to reach the capsule's platform. By carefully clearing this jump, the player can take the plunge in Labyrinth Zone.
