Jungle Zone, Act 1

Jungle Zone was the third zone on Sonic the Hedgehog for Game Gear and Sega Master System.

Like Bridge Zone, this zone is also unique to the SMS/GG game.

Synopsis

A lush green jungle filled with Crabmeat critters and Newtron, who appears to shoot bullets at you. The level is filled with waterfalls and the platforms hover above a dark limpid river.

Acts

Act One - This is the introductory level to the zone. You begin on a lower ledge of the left of the level, and most get to the right side. To do this, you must jump from ledge to ledge, pass behind waterfalls, and ride logs over streams. Swinging platforms help get you across large gaps.

Act Two - This level is vertical. You must jump from ledge to ledge, walk over log bridges, and scale floating platforms to climb up a waterfall. If you fall past the the bottom of the screen, Sonic loses a life. The Game Gear version lacks the falling off death. And you fall back to the lower levels.

Act Three - The battle with Dr. Robotnik. Climb up the vines to reach the curved U-shape vine. Robotnik hovers above Sonic, periodically dropping bombs which roll around the vine, and blow up in the centre. As in the first battle, Robotnik lowers. Jump on top of his ship. When you have beaten him, make a very large jump to the right of the vine.

Other

Act One - The Chaos emerald is located on a ledge in this level, which can only be reached by floating on a log in the water at the bottom of the level.
