Item Panels[1] (アイテムパネル)[2] are rotating emblems in Sonic R which grant players items for use during a race. They are analogous to monitors ("item boxes") in the 2D Sonic the Hedgehog platform games.
Item panels are dotted across each of the five maps of Sonic R, awarding players with one of six random items when collided with. Panels never disappear, but only grant items to a player every few seconds, discouraging players to stand idly by waiting during a race for their item of choice.
