Flying Battery Zone is the fourth zone in Sonic Mania, which is based on Flying Battery Zone from Sonic & Knuckles.
Overview
Set on board Dr. Eggman's flying airship once again as it passes through Studiopolis Zone, Act 1 is designed much like the original Act 1, but with a few differences. For starters, the fan platforms from Wing Fortress Zone have been added to the zone, gimmicks from Act 2 such as the spider robot and the swinging black orbs have been ported over, and having a Lightning Shield now draws you to the electromagnets, allowing you to walk on them in reverse gravity.
In Act 2, the airship dips beneath the sea of clouds and into a storm. By going through doorwarys inside the ship, you'll move to the outside in which the strong winds of the storm will push you to the left slightly, and you'll traverse some familiar level design setpieces from Wing Fortress Zone. If you travel to the underside of the ship, you will find electrical conduits from Wacky Workbench wired all over the place. This time around, you can destroy the mine-like connectors to stop electricity from flowing through them, and destroying the Madmoles controlling them will stop them for good.
In both acts, there are trash pits full of scrapped Badnik remains that you can sink into, with the remains being from certain badniks from Sonic the Hedgehog, including Splats.
Enemies
- Blaster - Badnik that fires small projectiles. From the original Flying Battery Zone.
- Technosqueek - Small robotic rodent. From the original Flying Battery Zone.
- Clucker - Chicken enemy, sits on a podium and fires eggs at you. Originally from Wing Fortress Zone.
- Madmole - Mole badnik that controls the electrical conduits. Originally from Mushroom Hill Zone.
