Template:CharacterSheet Doctor Eggman Nega made his debut in Sonic Rush, where he was one of the game's main antagonists. He is the dimensional counterpart of the Dr. Robotnik from Sonic's world, and is the arch nemesis of Blaze the Cat. His design is reminiscent of Robotnik's classic design, as well as his current one. As with the other Robotnik, he is voiced by Mike Pollock in the English-speaking versions of the games he appeared in. His voice is the same as Eggman's in the Rush games, but higher pitched in the Rivals games.

Sonic Rush

In this game, Eggman Nega sent Blaze's homeworld into ruin by convincing Dr. Robotnik to steal the Sol Emeralds. Nega was the main antagonist of Sonic's story, and was first encountered in the Water Palace Zone (where Sonic then mistook him for the other Robotnik, but was quickly corrected). Later on, during Sonic and Blaze's encounter with him at the Dead Line Zone, Eggman Nega revealed his plan to obtain "ultimate power" from the Sol Emeralds, and admitted that he couldn't have cared less what happens to their world (which of course, angered Blaze). During this very same cutscene, Nega also implied that he was using Robotnik. Later on, in the Last Story, both Robotniks use their "ultimate mecha" to absorb the power of the Sol Emeralds, leaving them dull and lifeless. However, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream told Blaze that the emeralds will "never lose their glow" as long as they have positive energy (which was how the Sol Emeralds got refueled). Shortly after that, Sonic and Blaze absorbed the power of the Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds, becoming Super Sonic and Burning Blaze, and the combined assault of both heroes was enough to defeat the "ultimate mecha" that the two Robotniks were using.

Sonic Rivals

During the events of this game, Nega created (or stole) a special type of camera, which has the ability to turn anything into a card in just a click of a button. Using this device, Nega traveled into the past, captured Dr. Robotnik, and had him turned into a card. He then did the same thing to Rouge after she discovered his secret, and for unknown reasons, did the same to Tails and Amy. In Shadow's story, it is revealed that Nega traveled into the past, so that he could change the future. According to himself, he comes from a "long line of brilliant scientists", and that the "lineage was disrupted by Eggman's failed attempts at success." He thought that if he were to get rid of Robotnik, then that would "alter [his] family history forever". Before he could do that, Shadow and Silver managed to save him. Afterwards, Nega traveled into space, using his ship, the "Egg Destroyer", in which he planned to destroy the Earth by turning it into a card. In the end, he is thwarted by Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, and Silver. After his defeat, he tries to flee, but accidently turns himself into a card.

Sonic Rush Adventure

Eggman Nega and Robotnik were hardly in this game, until the very end. As it turns out, they were the true masterminds behind the events that took place in the game, as they were the ones who created Captain Whiskers (which explains his resemblance to them) and Johnny, which were sent to steal the Jeweled Scepter from Blaze. As with the first game, the two Robotniks wanted to obtain "ultimate power" with it, claiming that it's more powerful than even the Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds. The Robotniks, of course, used the power of the Jeweled Scepter to power their mech, but in the end, they are once again defeated by a combined assault of Super Sonic and Burning Blaze.

Sonic Rivals 2

Once again, Nega poses as the real Dr. Robotnik, and his goal is to release an interdimensional beast called the "Ifrit", so that he could use its powers to destroy the world. In order to do that, the seven Chaos Emeralds were needed to open the seal on the door to the Ifrit's dimension. Not wanting to go through the trouble of hunting for the emeralds, himself, he decides to steal the Master Emerald (which of course, gets Knuckles involved), places it inside of an emerald detector, and hires Rouge to collect them for him. He was also responsible for the disappearances of many Chao (which got Sonic, Tails, Silver, and Espio involved), and intended to feed them to the Ifrit, so that it would become unstoppable. Towards the end of the game, Eggman Nega manages to get the door open (due to the fact that Rouge collected six of the Chaos Emeralds, and because of the one that Metal Sonic had inside of himself), and goes through. In order to buy the time he needed to escape to the Ifrit's resting place, he uses his Metal Sonic ver. 3.0 to distract the heroes. Shortly afterwards, the Ifrit is awakened, but due to the fact that the Chao were taken away, Nega was unable to feed the Chao to the Ifrit, but he still felt that the might of the Ifrit was more than enough to deal with them. Ultimately, the Ifrit is defeated by the heroes, and Nega is left in the Ifrit's dimension, with his legs caught under a pile of rubble.

Personality

Eggman Nega has almost the exact same personality as his counterpart/ancestor, but with some minor differences. According to the Sonic Rush manual, he his "more cold and calculating" than the Robotnik of Sonic's world, and he also happens to act very polite, despite being sinister and evil. He also happens to make unnecessary speeches, losing track of important details. For example, during the Last Story of Sonic Rush, Super Sonic and Burning Blaze were about to have a head-on collision with their mech, and Nega was busy "babbling" (as Robotnik put it), not noticing what was going on (while Robotnik, on the other hand, was perfectly aware, and was in a state of panic). Despite being highly intelligent, Nega also, at times, lacks common sense, and has proven himself to be absolutely insane. One example of his lack of common sense was in Sonic Rivals, where he did not realize that he, too, would cease to exist if he were to erase Dr. Robotnik from that timeframe. Another example of his lack of common sense (as well as his insanity), was after the final battle of Sonic Rush Adventure, where Nega activated a laser beam that would not only destroy Sonic and Blaze, but himself, Robotnik, and the entire planet, as well.

Quotes

  • "Oh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have laughed. It's just that... you're so cruel. You taunt me by not using my full title."
  • "But in the end, you will be destroyed by... Dr. Eggman Nega!"

Trivia

  • According to himself (in Sonic Rivals), Nega is Robotnik's descendant, which contradicts Sonic Rush, in which he was revealed to be his counterpart from another dimension. This is considered by fans to be one of the biggest continuity errors in the Sonic series (next to Sonic the Hedgehog, which says that Blaze is from the future, as well).
  • How Nega managed to come back after being turned into a card in Sonic Rivals is unexplained in both its sequel and Sonic Rush Adventure.
  • Despite the fact that he's a member of the Robotnik family, that surname was never applied to Eggman Nega in neither the games or their respective manuals.
  • Nega is the only villain in the Sonic series (aside from Dr. Robotnik) who appeared in more than one game, while still maintaining his previous role as the main antagonist.
  • In both Rivals games, Nega's true identity was never revealed in Sonic's, Tails', or Knuckles' stories, as they all thought that he was Robotnik from the beginning to end.
