The Deep Nightmare (ディープ・ナイトメア) is an enemy in the night stages of Sonic Unleashed and one of Dark Gaia's minions.

Overview

Amongst the least strange of Dark Gaia's monsters, these blue-black humanoid enemies have thick forearms and spiked backs, which nevertheless lend them a bizarre, otherworldly appearence. Deep Nightmares can appear in puffs of supernatural smoke, and are usually found spearheading a group of their lesser cousins, the standard Nightmares. The two can be distinguished by the Deep Nightmare's darker blue colouring and larger horn, as well as their ability to take more punishment.

Deep Nightmares lack any sort of projectile attack, and instead attack the Werehog by means of their stretchy arms. They are also capable of using their arms to shield themselves from the Werehog's attacks if he attacks them too wildly.

There is a stronger variant of the Deep Nightmare, known as the Red Deep Nightmare, that appears only in the Wii/PS2 version.

Moves (PS2/Wii)

• Swing Punch: -8 rings/health
• Flip Attack: -16 rings/health
• Guard (defensive)

Quotes

When even deeper wellsprings of grief and anger in the world's people gather, they give rise to these mean monsters. They're both stronger and tougher to take out than their Nightmare cousins.

Powered-up versions of the Nightmares: a little bit bigger, a little bit stronger.
