Game appearances

Sonic Adventure 2

Sonic Adventure 2 is the first game to feature Chaos Drives, where they are used as a power source to G.U.N. robots and are dropped when they're destroyed. Once collected, they can be used for raising Chao, adding to one of their stats. Additionally, for Tails and Eggman, a Chaos Drive will recover the same health as one Ring does.

The Chaos Drives come in four colours, each tied to a particular Chao stat as listed below:

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

In the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game, Chaos Drives are used to power Dr. Eggman's robots and are dropped alongside Light Cores when they're destroyed. As soon as they are released, they home in on the player's character, replenishing larger portions of their Action Gauge than Light Cores. A Chaos Drive also appears as the icon for the Gauge Up Item Box, which fully replenishes the character's Action Gauge when broken. As there are no Chao Gardens in this game, Chaos Drives cannot be used for raising Chao.

Compared to their appearance in Sonic Adventure 2, Chaos Drives in this game are not contained in capsules, and are coloured blue.
