Desert Palace from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an example of the desert/western theme.
Levels with the desert/western theme feature sand, the hot sun, quicksand, and spikes. This theme first appeared in Desert Dodge in SegaSonic the Hedgehog.
Levels of this variety may be based on Egyptian deserts and sport ruins, pyramids and hieroglyphs, or western deserts and thus sport rocky gorges and cacti, railroad features, saloons and tumbleweeds. Levels with this theme may also have elements common in the ancient ruins theme.
