Blast Processing was a marketing term coined by Sega to advertise the fact that the main processor of the Sega Genesis was over two times faster than the one on the Super NES. However, this is not entirely accurate. The Super NES CPU ran slower in clock cycles per second, but put out more instructions per clock cycle. This is also known as the Megahertz Myth. Sonic the Hedgehog, the first game in a long series, was the posterboy for this campaign, being faster than any other platform game at the time.
