Planet Wisp is the fourth stage of Sonic Colours.

This planet is actually the home world of the Wisps. It is an industrial level built into a mountainside, leaving plenty of room for jumps through twisting metallic structures. Eggman captured the Wisps in order to fuel his interstellar theme park.

Story
Back at Eggman's laboratory, Orbot tries to install the correct voice chip for Cubot, but ends up giving him an annoying pirate voice instead. After giving Orbot a piece of his mind, Eggman plans to use his mind control beam on Sonic's home planet to add it to his collection, thereby completing his amusement park. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails arrive on Planet Wisp and notice something very "Eggmanish" about it, as it is currently under construction to become part of his theme park. The Wisps are terrified about the state of their planet and notify Sonic and Tails of the tractor beam generator.

Acts - Planet Wisp
Act 1
Sonic begins in a field of grass which in the breeze, and as he runs forward through the various rock outcroppings, very quickly the scenery becomes an agglomeration of Eggman's characteristic architecture and the originally pure Planet Wisp landscape. Sonic must drift around corners, grind rails suspended above poisonous waters. A 3D-to-2D transition sends Sonic into one of the first of many of Eggman's main structures, where he can either blast through glass ceilings with the Rocket Wisp, or utilize the new power found in the level, the Spike Wisp. With the Spike Wisp, Sonic transforms into an invincible spike ball that can stick to any surface, thereby allowing him to find red rings, and discover new paths. In addition to this power, Sonic can use a charge move reminiscent of the spin dash to quickly speed through. With the Spike Wisp, much like with other Wisps found in the game, Sonic can destroy black crates. A quick step section is also included within the level. After jumping across platforms and using the Spike Wisp, Sonic reaches the goal.

Act 3
Planet Wisp Act 3 starts out with a catwalk Quick Step section where Sonic must collect White Wisps, which will fill some of the boost gauge so that he can destroy the Egg Pawns in his path while simultaneously dodging lasers from the Aero-Chasers to stay on the high path in order to reach the first Red Ring. Following this is a short drift section that will lead Sonic directly into a 2D block section. Using the Blue Cube Color Power, the player must transform the blue blocks and destroy the Wisp blocks to make it to the lower portion of the stage. Using the small solid and platform blocks as platforms, the player must traverse over a large pit to reach the blue blocks or crane lift that lead to the goal ring.

Act 4
If you didn't realize it, from Act 1 and Act 3, Act 4 begins in an area, after the ending, where you reached the previous goal rings. Sonic runs through a tunnel, and you evenutatly go through a drifting zone. After crossing a "bridge of doom," you get to a tower that seems large in size. You, basically scale up this large tower, then you're at the goal.

My main question is on how Act 4 continues to Act 6...

Act 6
As he grinds through a piece of Eggman's facility, Sonic heads out to the generator far away from his reach. After defeating two enemies and reaching the next grind rail (or heading down below to the Red Ring), he grinds his way to another architectural area, avoiding the poisonous water down below. If possible, the player can use the Green Wisp to hover around and collect the rings and don't travel through the little elevator lift. After using the Pink Wisp to reach the higher room, a ramp followed by another set of grind rails leads Sonic to a 2D section made entirely of small platform blocks with a vertical, shelf-like layout. As the player travels upward, a switch reveals a line of rings that can be reached by using the Green Wisp. Using the Pink Spike Color Power, Sonic travels upward to find the fifth red ring and drops down to the goal ring.

The Egg Beetle is the second (first in the Wii/PS2 version) of Eggman's machines faced by Sonic in Sonic Unleashed, taking place in the Mazuri reigon. The battle takes place on a circular path, so it doesn't end in mid-battle. You must get its health down to zero to win.

In the PS3/360 version, it has three attacks: pinching Sonic with its giant pincer, throwing bombs onto the track, and firing missiles at Sonic. Sometimes Eggman will literally charge you and the perspective will shift from 3D to 2D. His attacks are the same, but hitting him is much harder in 2D.

In the Wii/PS2 version of the game, the Egg Beetle shares much the same pattern as his PS3/360 counterpart, but with a few differences. The bomb attack in the 3D portion will instead be replaced by Eggman dropping three steel crates that, once on the ground, will flip over on to one side in hopes of getting in Sonic's way (damaging him if Sonic runs into it). Also, the mech will not use the missiles in the 3D section either, but will still attempt to crush you with it's giant pincers. In the 2D section of the fight (initiated after about 2 hits against the mech) Eggman will launch three missiles while running alongside you in the background. These missiles will come in from behind you (one high, one low & one in between) and you have to dodge them with precise jumping. After the missiles pass, the Egg Beetle then attempts to crush you with it's pincers once, which you have to avoid with a well timed jump, and then comes back in to the 2D plane for another crushing attempt (which is the moment that you can actually damage him).

In both versions, if you hit Eggman correctly, you can knock him onto the track, and if you can reach him before he gets back into the air, you can hit him again, allowing 3 consecutive hits.

Eggman's Quotes
*"Take THIS!"
*"Oh hoh, are you fast enough to dodge THIS?!"
*"Eeg, your manners are as bad as ever!"
*"GAAAAH!"
Savannah Citadel and its hub town Mazuri form the third area visited in Sonic Unleashed. It is known as Clay Castle (クレイ キャッスル kurei kyassuru) in the Japanese version of the game, Sonic World Adventure. Set in an African savannah, the level's centrepiece is an enormous building based on the Great Mosque of Djenné: the largest mud brick structure in the world.

Features include poles on which Sonic can swing and a large amount of 2D sections. Nighttime Act 1 introduces pulling/pushing boxes to trigger switches, and pulling rotating levers. Act 2 is a long and challenging balance beam stage.

This level is not in the Wii or PS2 versions. Although the Boss, Egg Beetle appears in this version.

Story
After a brief fly-by visit to Spagonia revealed that Professor Pickle had been kidnapped by Eggman, Sonic, Tails, and Chip follow their trail to Mazuri. As the Werehog, Sonic fights through Savannah Citadel Night Act 1 to reach the Eggman facility where the Professor is being held. While the elderly academic seems more concerned in complaining about Robotnik's inferior cucumber sandwiches, the heroes free him and recover the Gaia Manuscripts. A brief return to Spagonia in order to repatriate the Professor sees Sonic assigned to seek out the Gaia Temples, in order to relight the Chaos Emeralds and thence fix the planet.

Eggman and SA-55 are in the town on Sonic's rearrival, threatening the villagers to find where the Temple of Gaia is himself. Sonic destroys his Egg Fighters and pursues Eggman towards the Temple in Savannah Citadel Day Act 1. After the fight against the Egg Beetle, Sonic and Chip enter the Gaia Temple and restore the green Chaos Emerald, which puts one piece of the planet back in its rightful place.

Characters
Gwek- (グウェク) The village elder of Mazuri. He has a habit of slipping into tales of his own heroism when in good spirits. These tales grow more exaggerated every year, to the point where he has now punched out entire waves of wayward elephants with one hand tied behind his back. Truth be told, though, Gwek is not all that fond of danger.

Kwami- (クワミ) A calm and collected man who seems a likely candidate to be the next village elder. He appears to possess some sort of spiritual power, as he can often be spotted murmuring up at the heavens. Kwami's daughter Ana has been the cause of many a headache for him lately.

Essie- (エシー) A plucky mother of eight and undeniable whiz in the kitchen who somehow manages to feed her entire family after only a half hour in front of the stove. Essie actually wanted more children, but her husband (who has since passed away) supposedly drew the line at eight.

Yawa- (ヤワ) A rowdy, talkative boy who idolizes Gwek and swallows the elder's tall tales hook, line, and sinker. Not long ago, Yawa journeyed into the savannah to punch out elephants, but got lost. Thankfully, he made it home without incident.

Kofi- (コフィー) A man who runs a shop in the village. He really ought to have packed up and left by now, but he just couldn't be bothered. Many would call Kofi "unsociable," but he prefers the term "socially challenged."

Ana- (アナ) Kwami's daughter, who longs to meet her true love. She believes her prince in shining armor is out there in the world, somewhere. The way she tells it, the two of them will meet, their eyes will lock and they will "Just Know." Reasoning with Ana is like squeezing juice from a rock.

Kwod- (クーウォド) Essie's boy. Every once in a while a child is born in the village with a strange sixth sense and the ability to speak with the unseen. Kwod happens to be one of these.

Yaya- (ヤヤ) Essie's youngest daughter, a tyke so bashful she'll take off at so much as a hello. According to Essie, Yaya has always been that way: right after the girl was born, she let out a tiny wail and clammed up a second later like she was embarrassed.

Hot Dog Vendor- (ホットドッグ屋) The manager of the Don Fachio hot dog mega-franchise's Mazuri location. As the chain's most mysterious man, he knows how to mix up one high-volume, high-energy dog.

Acts - Savannah Citadel
Main Game
Day Act 1
The main Day stage has Sonic racing throught the mud citadel and surrounding forest, looking to get to the Temple of Gaia before Robotnik. Look out for the scrubgrass which saps your ability to use Sonic Boost.

Day Act 2
A notoriously frustrating 3-lap level designed around the Speed Drift move, Act 2 is set high in the treetops on a roadway with no safety barriers, and a 1:15 time limit. Be prepared to hemorrhage lives as you sail over the edge of the track after a Sonic Boost every 5 seconds. It is actually possible (and, indeed, often easier) to complete this level without using the Speed Drift at all; just turn really hard and really fast in Sonic's normal run.

Day Act 3
Act 3 is a short 2.5D lap level around the giant tree as seen at the end of Act 1.

Night Act 1
The main Night stage is first fought through by the werehog on the way to rescue Prof. Pickle. There are a number of block and platform moving puzzles, as well as a fight section at the very end against waves of Egg Fighter Swords.

Night Act 2
A balance beam level. Just be patient and walk very, very slowly as you tiptoe high above the forest floor.

'Final Exam' Puzzle Room
In the mission level for "Final Exam", the door behind where Sonic begins the level can be glitched through to reveal a different puzzle. The puzzle would require raising platforms to get a green stone to the door at the end, at which point the player must then insert a nearby red stone to open a (non-existent) door to the Goal Ring. This area also features a sun medal, putting the count at 201 (the game doesn't count it should the player collect it.) Touching the goal ring will still complete the mission. This mission was expected to be part of the Mazuri Adventure Pack, but ultimately was not used again.

Mazuri Adventure Pack DLC
The fourth Sonic Unleashed downloadable content is the Mazuri Adventure Pack, which adds two new daytime stages, two hard versions of existing daytime stages, and two new nighttime stage. It was released on Xbox Live for 250 MS Points on 30 April, 2009 and on the PlayStation Network for $3.00 on 07 May, 2009.

Day Acts 1-2 and 3-2
Day Acts 1-2 and 3-2 are harder versions of Act 1 and Act 3, respectively. Act 3-2 changes the original mission objective from get to the goal after three laps to collecting 300 rings and getting to the goal within two minutes.

Day Acts 4 & 5
Day Act 4 is a complex platforming level, requiring the player to have the Wall-Jump ability to progress through the stage. It takes place within the actual citadel itself.

Day Act 5 is a three-lap course taking place on the arena for Mazuri's Boss, the Egg Beetle. The laps are filled with chase gimmicks used throughout the game, such as avoiding three bomber robots or outracing one chaser robot. The laps segue into each other by use of small platforming sequences in the middle of the arena to enter the next lap.

Night Acts 3 & 4
Night Act 3 tests the player's skill with the Werehog's pole swinging ability. Half of the stage is floorless, requiring the player to swing from pole to pole to advance. The poles are timed by a lever the player must activate to make the poles come out and will retract when time is up.

Night Act 4 is a heavy platforming level taking place in Mazuri's tree tops. This level was originally shown off in developmental shots when the game was first leaked to the internet in early 2008. However, when it wasn't found in the final version of the game, it was speculated to be a lost level. It makes its debut as this stage, now being one of the larger Werehog levels offered from downloadable content. Players must move through the trees on wooden catwalks while platforming across hammer and spike-ridden traps. The level boasts several midbosses, so players should exercise caution to conserve Sonic's health.

At the end of Act 4, while on the platform you fight the second Titan on, another wooden platform can be seen attached to the tree. It's out of reach, but can be seen clearly by doing a running double jump and then an X-X-A/PS Square-PS Square-PS Triangle combo from the break in the fence. There's a grab ledge near you and at the end of the platform, which has a narrow end near the tree and a wide, open area ahead of it. To reach it, you need to: First activate Unleash (Fully Upgraded Recommended), Second, Perform the Following Combo: X-X-A-A/PS Square-PS Square-PS Triangle-PS Triangle(While in Unleash Mode combos are infinite, so keep pressing them and the werehog will fly through the air). Finally, when you get near the grab ledge, only press X-X/PS Square-PS Square(After Finalizing a Combo),Double-Jump and press B/PS Circle to grab onto the ledge. There's nothing else after that platform, and its impossible to get out of it without losing a life.

Hot Dog Trials
These missions can be accessed by speaking with the hot dog vendor in Mazuri after completing the corresponding Day or Night Act. Completing a level 1 mission unlocks the level 2 mission and earns 1 Scorcher Dog, completing a level 2 mission unlocks the level 3 mission and earns 2 Scorcher Dogs, completing a level 3 mission earns 3 Scorcher Dogs and completing all of them will unlock the Exotic Toppings Achievement.
sub-stubGreen Hill is the first stage in Sonic Generations and an adaption of the level Green Hill Zone seen in Sonic the Hedgehog (with some elements taken from Emerald Hill Zone, like the Buzzers replacing the original Buzzbombers). It is the only stage in both the console and handheld versions of the game. The Classic Zone is a recreation of the original Act, while Modern adds high speed thrills to the zone.

Act 1
The classic act shown practically a re-invention of the first act of Green Hill Zone, its zone of origin, but the graphical model of the 3DS. It features the return of badniks as Motobugs, Crabmeats, Choppers, Buzz Bombers and Newtrons.

Act 2
The modern act, since it differs from its predecessor with a completely new stage structure, note that the entire stage is "falling apart", with totems being knocked down and suffering from the same rails. Dragon Road and its hub town Chun-nan form the fifth area visited in Sonic Unleashed. The level is based on the Great Wall of China and has Sonic scaling giant dragons. There are several platforming sections on brightly coloured revolving wheels covered in Chinese-style patterns. Fireworks launch Sonic great distances; perhaps a tribute to the ancient Chinese invention.

The night Act Stage introduces the player to a slingshot like gimmick where Sonic pulls a pole towards himself and lets it propel him forward.

Story
After exploring Spagonia and Holoska, Sonic is directed by Professor Pickle to search for a Temple of Gaia in Chun-nan. On arriving in the town, it seems that the village eldar, Zonshin, has gone missing; he went out searching for the village treasure lost during the earthquake that woke up Dark Gaia, and hasn't come back. Sonic and Chip agree to go search for him in Dragon Road Night Act 1.

Zonshin is found with the Dark Gaia Phoenix - guardian of the Chun-nan Gaia Temple, that went berzerk when Robotnik sapped the Emerald's power. The Werehog defeats the phoenix, restores the red Chaos Emerald on the altar, and returns the eldar to the village.

Even after the planet piece is repaired, Chun-nan isn't out of the fire yet. Return in the day and the villagers report that now they're beset by Eggman's robots! Complete Dragon Road Day Act 1 to open the town back up and recieve the local's thanks a second time.

The daytime Entrance Stage in Chun-nan is where Sonic can find the Air Boost Shoes, enabling him to use Sonic Boost in mid-air.

Characters
Zonshen (ゾンシェン) - A walking treasure trove of medical knowledge who can supposedly cure any ailment. Unfortunately, much to his irritation, Zonshen's arms aren't quite long enough for him to cure his own chronic back pain. Zonshen is the village elder and the guardian of Chun-nan's Gaia Gate. Sonic and Chip had to rescue him from the Dark Gaia Phoenix and he later helped them in their mission.

Lin (リン) - A meat bun pro who has been serving them up for 90 years now. Technically, Lin is retired, having passed the extent of her bun-craft on to her only daughter, Jinlin. Decades of customer interaction have made her an excellent judge of character; she only needs one glance.

Shuifon (シュイフォン) - A painfully indecisive man who happens to harbor a secret. Someone dressed in black has been snooping around his house lately. Or maybe not; Shuifon is sort of hazy about the details.

Wang (ワン) - Lin's son-in-law, who works at the pork bun shop. The village's famous buns have always been whipped up by the ladies, who won't let him comes anywhere near the kitchen. Then again, Wang knows how strict Lin can be about her product, so he's perfectly content with being stuck behind the counter.

Jinlin (ジンリン) - Lin's only daughter, who has recently been initiated into the family meat bun business. Since then, she has been busy every day, churning out one bun after another. Jinlin's goal is to further evolve the craft before passing the shop down to her own daughter, Hualin.

Hualin (ワーリン) - Jinlin and Wang's daughter. Hualin was born into a family of bun-makers, and as you might imagine, she is thoroughly bunned out. She has switched to an all-vegetable diet ("for my complexion!" she says) in hopes of reversing a lifetime of meat bun damage while still of marriageable age.

Chun (チュン) - Zonshen grandson and a noteble meat bun consumer, who one day when he gets older, hopes to be a profesional Meat Bun critic who gets to eat them all day. Because of his Meat Bun Obsession Chun who grown exeptionaly (at least horizontally).

Yilin (イーリン) - For as long as she can remember, she has been obsessed with hide-and-seek. Yilin has been known to stay hiding for days at a time, so challenging her requires a special kind of fortitude.

Hot Dog Vendor - The manager of the Don Fachio hot dog mega-franchise's Chun-nan location. The sketchiest vendor in the biz, he freely admits to lacing his dogs with "secret herbs" for added nutrition and vitamins.

Acts - Dragon Road
Main Game
Day Act 1
Even after the planet piece is repaired, Chun-nan isn't out of the fire yet. Day Act 1 sees Sonic clear Eggman's forces from the area. This level features a river gorge route where Sonic has to use Speed Drift and Sonic Boost simultaneously to navigate the winding waterways.

Day Act 2
A 2.5D three-lap track where the course changes on each circuit. Make good use of quick spin jumps to get up onto faster and easier routes.

Day Act 3
This act is composed almost entirely out of the giant spinning prayer wheels from day act 1. Be careful at the very end; just as you approach the Goal Ring, the final dash pad tries to launch Sonic into a bottomless pit!

Night Act 1
The main Night act, this level sees Sonic fight his way through Dark Gaia minions to the Temple of Gaia and Dark Gaia Phoenix. The level includes several shallow water areas where Thunderballs can be used to electrocute other enemies.

Night Act 2
This act is a key hunt, with the werehog having to employ various creative methods of getting keys to their appropriate pedastals. These include balance beam challenges and making good use of the extendo-arms - leaving keys on one side of a gap, jumping across, then retrieving them with a stretchy grab.

Zonshen's Mission Areas
Although these areas are explorable in missions from Dr. Zongshen, they're blocked off by an invisible wall in the main level to the left of the goal ring. It is believed the level was shortened to keep the werehog's gameplay from being overly slow. The area has Sonic exploring ruins of a palace and includes a view of Chun-nan's Temple of Gaia, as well as the battle arena for Dark Gaia Phoenix. This area is accessible as Act 1-2 in the Dragon Road Adventure Pack.

Dragon Road Adventure Pack DLC
The first Sonic Unleashed downloadable content is the Dragon Road Adventure Pack, which adds two new daytime stages, one new nighttime stage, and harder or extended versions of two daytime and one nighttime stage. It was released on Xbox Live for 250 MS Points on 5 March, 2009 and on the PlayStation Network alongside the Spagonia Adventure Pack for $3.00 on 16 April, 2009.

Day Acts 1-2 and 2-2
Day Acts 1-2 and 2-2 are harder versions of Act 1 and Act 2, respectively.

Day Acts 4 & 5
Day Act 4 is a platforming area with lots of revolving platforms. It's high above the ground, and has a lot of pits.

Day Act 5 is a four-lap water running course, littered with solid areas.

Night Act 1-2
Night Act 1-2 is the second, unused half of Act 1. Notably, the end of the level features a Titan that breaks through a wall before the fight begins. The stage relies upon breakable walls.

Night Act 3
Night Act 3 is a large platforming area on the outside of the Great Wall. There is comparatively little combat compared to other levels.

Hot Dog Trials
These missions can be accessed by speaking with the hot dog vendor in Chun-Nan after completing the corresponding Day or Night Act. Completing a level 1 mission unlocks the level 2 mission and earns 1 Historic Dog, completing a level 2 mission unlocks the level 3 mission and earns 2 Historic Dogs, completing a level 3 mission earns 3 Historic Dogs and completing all of them will unlock the Sausage Fried Rice Achievement.

Rooftop Run and its hub town Spagonia form the second level in Sonic Unleashed. The area is called Orange Roofs (オランジ ル-フ oranji ruufusu) in the Japanese version, Sonic World Adventure. Set on the rooftops of a European-style town, this level features balloons that pop on contact to propel Sonic upward, as well as aqueducts, clock towers, and obscene speed. A remake of this level appears in Sonic Generations

The night Act Stage makes a lot of use out of pulling switches, and houses an enormous clock tower platforming segment.

Spagonia resembles the Italian city of Siena and shares some characteristics with the Soleanna adventure field from Sonic The Hedgehog.

Story
Sonic, Tails, and Chip arrive over Spagonia after defeating the Egg Cauldron in Tornado Defence 1, hoping to find Professor Pickle for information about Eggman's plan. However, on reaching Spagonia University, the Professor's offices have been ransacked! His assistant reveals that the professor was kidnapped by someone matching Eggman's description. Sonic heads outside to talk to the residents and look for clues. Various residents point the hedgehog in the direction of Mazuri.

After rescuing the Professor, and restoring a piece of the planet at Mazuri's Temple of Gaia, Sonic and Chip head back to Spagonia. Here Amy Rose makes her first appearence - launching herself at Sonic the Werehog as she always tends to do to any vaguely Sonic-shaped travellers. Though when Amy bothers to open her eyes she decides that the Werehog isn't Sonic, and runs off. Normally glad to see the back of her, Amy's lack of recognition proves unusually depressing for Sonic.

In Pickle's lab, the Prof reveals that he has been able to determine the location of two other Temples of Gaia besides Mazuri's: one in Holoska, and the other nearby in Spagonia. Fighting through Rooftop Run Night Act 1, Sonic acquires a Gaia Key for the temple. Back in the town proper, Tails hands over Pickle's "Uncanny Camera" - a device Chip quickly puts to good use in freeing people from Dark Gaia's possession in the town square, thereby saving Amy.

After fixing the Chun-nan fragment and saving the village from Eggman's forces, Sonic can return to Spagonia to access the area's own Temple of Gaia. The Doctor has his own ideas, however, and the Egg Devil Ray ambushes the hedgehog on a long aqueduct leading to the temple. Once the boss is defeated, Sonic and Chip recharge the blue Chaos Emerald. Pickle next sends the pair to the Holoska temple.

The daytime Entrance Stage in Spagonia is where Sonic can find the Wall Jump Shoes, enabling him to Wall Jump up tight gaps and reach higher platforms.

Characters
Gigi- (ジジ) He is a chef at a well-established restaurant that is popular with students. It has been in his family for three generations. He fills his days by energetically searching for new menu items, but leaves the rigorous taste-testing to Barbara, his wife. Gigi was affected and controlled by Dark Gaia until he was rescued by Sonic the Hedgehog.

Barbara- (バルバラ) Barbara is Gigi's wife, and she minds the dining room in his restaurant. To this day, her cheerful smile continues to draw the customers in. Of course, Barbara also helps taste test Gigi's newest culinary creations, and the rigors of the task over the years have made her girlish figure a thing of the past. Like Gigi, she was affected by Dark Gaia until Sonic freed her.

Otto- (オットー) He is the landlord of the students' apartment building. Otto has an uncanny knack for pegging which of his tenants has a thing for whom, but sometimes all the love in the air leaves him a bit choked up for his own youthful romances. Along with Lucia, he is the guardian of the Spagonian Gaia Gate. It is his duty not only to protect the Gate but also to guide the "chosen" (which includes, during the events of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic and Chip). Otto helped combine the tablet fragments for Spagonia's Planet Tablet. He is an old friend of Professor Pickle, and the Professor even claimed that Otto inspired him to start out on his career. Despite their friendship, however, Professor Pickle admitted great surprise when he discovered that Otto was a guardian.

Irma- (イルマ) She is Ippolita's grandmother, who keeps her hat on so tight that very few get a good look at her face. Irma's hobby is hat making, and she happens to be quite good at it. Sadly, though, her charming chapeaus seems to be meant for one head only: hers.

Josef- (ジョセフ) He is the owner of Josef's, and not a terribly creative thinker, as the name of his shop surely implies. Recently, Josef realized he didn't have enough hobbies outside of work, so he took up jogging, painting, and photography. None of these endeavors lasted very long.

Marcantonio- (マーカントニオ) Though he seems aloof and cool, this dandy actually sports an interesting ability. He's also single at the moment.

Ciccio- (チッチョ) He is Natalia's husband and the father of Elio. He is a talented shoemaker. For 20 years, he's fussed over every instep and insole. Not to long ago, Cicco heard about wondrous shoes that turn their wearer into a speed demon, and would give anything for a peek at them.

Denise- (ドニーズ) She is the proprietor of a beauty salon. She's famous in town for her novel hairstyles, and prides herself in always being able to spot the latest fads. Since laying her eyes on Sonic, Denise has been sighted carting home armfuls of mousse. What could she be planning?

Aida- (アイダ) She is the owner of a Spagonian jewelery shop. This lady of leisure loves two things: elegance and beauty. Naturally, Aida consider herself a paragon of both, which would explain why her room is plastered with pictures of herself.

Natalia- (ナタリア) A former supermodel whose looks could floor anybody. She's still beautiful: a loving mother of two (including Elio) and a source of strength for her shoemaker husband, Ciccio. Natalia makes a mean cheese pizza.

Franco- (フランコ) He is Federica's cousin and has been friends with Raimondo since they were little. He lives in the student dorms at the university. Franco is the son of a rich entrepreneur, and a very bright student. For some time now, he's had his eyes for Lilli.

David- (ダヴィド) He is a student at Spagonia U. He can be a clown sometimes, but otherwise he's a nice young man who has no trouble getting along with anybody. David is looking for a family-minded girl.

Raimondo- (ライモンド) is a 20-year-old resident of Spagonia in Sonic Unleashed. He is a student at Spagonia U. and a friend of Franco's since childhood. He is also Federica's boyfriend. He's a bit of a lone wolf, and skips classes in favor of spending time by himself. Raimondo doesn't mince words or make any effort to hide his moody side, but supposedly the ladies really dig that. He was controlled by Dark Gaia, until Sonic the Werehog rescued him.

Federica- (フェデリカ) She is a student at Spagonia U. She's Franco's cousin, and a woman of action: once she gets an idea, she follows it through. The downside: most of her ideas involve partying instead of studying. She is one of the people in Spagonia that was affected by Dark Gaia until freed by Sonic.

Lilli- (リリー) She is a mature and sensible archaeology major who lives in the student dorm at the university. She is a year older than her classmates. While Lilli stands at the head of her class, she looks at the people around her and wishes there was more to life than just being serious all the time.

Dora- (ドーラ) She is a university student who attend Professor Pickle's class for her major. Dora has a good heart, but she's still working on the ABCs of courtship: when a boy at school talks to her, she stares at the floor and clams right up. She had been affected by Dark Gaia until she was freed by Sonic the Werehog.

Elio- (エリオ) He is the son of Ciccio and Natalia. The fact that he inherited his father's facial features bothers him to no end, but he's far too nice a kid to ever say anything about it. Elio was affected by Dark Gaia until Sonic freed him.

Mauro- (マウロ) He is Spagonia's number one troublemaker, who subjects his primary target (that would be Denise) to every manner of prank and shenanigan imaginable. There does seem to be a motive behind Mauro's mayhem though. His father, Lucas, was lost at sea; it turns out he's in Apotos.

Ippolita- (イッポリータ) She is a little girl who lives with her grandmother, Irma. She is exceptionally responsible for her age, and never stops doing errands. Ippolita dreams of attending the university when she grows up, so she can "get in a 'ploma".

Prof. Pickles's Asst.- Professor Pickles's helper and his greatest admirer. He takes his sweet time with just about everything, which explains why he's often plugging away at the same work for three days when anybody else would have finished it in one.

Trivia
There is an oddity in the level layout of the Spagonia hub town. By walking through the wall of the right building from where you enter the Entrance Stage, you can find a button switch. You can press it, but it does nothing. If you instead go to the right, after walking through a couple non-solid buildings, there is a potted plant next to a barrel. If you fall through the floor, you will find that, oddly enough, the sewer section, despite the fade to black, is part of the main Entrance Stage, rather than another map. It's positioned correctly, which suggests that the elevator may have originally worked as more that a teleport.

Acts - Rooftop Run
Main Game
Day Act 1
The main Day Act, here Sonic races through the city, up the clocktower (and back down), then on to an aqueduct with Sonic Boost sections against a trio of Aero-Chasers.

Day Act 2
A 2D platforming level set high above the city, here Sonic must use his full range of skills to avoid falling to a nasty death. Homing Attacks, Wall Jumping, and Light Speed Dash are all needed to get through safely.

Day Act 3
A 2D chao-hunting mission. Sonic has to find the ten blue creatures before the time runs out.

Night Act 1
The main Night Act sees Sonic fight his way through Dark Gaia minions in the town. There are a lot of breakable doors hiding collectables and medals. Pushing levers releases huge barrels to break down doors and allow you to proceed. At the end of the level Sonic must climb the clocktower and adjust the time on the huge dial so he can walk across the hands!

Elio's Nights Mission: Elio's Different Locations
In this Mission you need to find Elio inside the clock tower. However, if you go trough the clock tower's door and explore, you will find Elio in 2 other locations: One inside of one of the stores and another right at the beginning of Night Act 1.

Spagonia Adventure Pack DLC
The second Sonic Unleashed downloadable content is the Spagonia Adventure Pack, which adds two new daytime stages, one new nighttime stage, and harder or extended versions of two daytime and one nighttime stage. It was released on Xbox Live for 250 MS Points on 19 March, 2009 and on the PlayStation Network alongside the Chun-Nan Adventure Pack for $3.00 on 16 April, 2009.

Day Acts 1-2 and 2-2
Day Acts 1-2 and 2-2 are harder versions of Act 1 and Act 2, respectively. Act 2, however, forgoes making the player run three laps and instead gives a new layout along side the perimeter wall of the level, a part not accessible in the normal level at all.

Day Acts 4 & 5
Day Act 4 is purely a chase level, where Sonic must defeat three robots flying infront of him while ramming into robots on the ground. Several trip steps and some pits exist to mess the player's performance up.

Day Act 5 is a level with almost no ground. It requires expert use of the homing attack and light speed dash to complete.

Night Act 1-2
Night Act 1-2 relies heavily on hitting switches to advance through the level. It plays from just before the second giant barrel to the first giant barrel in the original act. If you go trough the wall that is in front of a lever that needs to be activated (in the cellar room in the end of the level) you will get to the area with a fountain. In the top of the right building is another Goal Ring, possibly meaning that the level was supposed to be longer.

Night Act 2
Night Act 2 is a large grappling and climbing puzzle through a new area called the Catacombs under Spagonia. There is comparatively little combat compared to other levels.

Hot Dog Trials
These missions can be accessed by speaking with the hot dog vendor in Spagonia after completing the corresponding Day or Night Act. Completing a level 1 mission unlocks the level 2 mission and earns 1 Brainiac Dog, completing a level 2 mission unlocks the level 3 mission and earns 2 Brainiac Dogs, completing a level 3 mission earns 3 Brainiac Dogs and completing all of them will unlock the Pig in a Blanket Achievement.

*Level 1 - Finish the stage in 7 Minutes
*Level 2 - Finish the stage in 5 Minutes and 30 Seconds
*Level 2 - Destroy 50 enemies or more and finish the stage
*Level 3 - Destroy 80 enemies or more and finish the stage
Espio the Chameleon (Japanese: エスピオ・ザ・カメレオン, Esupio za Kamereon) is a recurring character in the Sonic the Hedgehog games and related media. Introduced to the Sonic series in Knuckles' Chaotix in 1995, Espio is a member of Chaotix and later Team Chaotix, the detective agency, with Vector the Crocodile and Charmy Bee. In Sonic Heroes and subsequent outings, Espio has taken the role of a calm, disciplined ninja, well-versed in concealment and wielding the largest shuriken known to man.

Character Conception
Espio's name is believed to derive from "espionage", or the Spanish word "espio", which literally means "I spy". There are some indications that Espio may have originally been intended as the main star of his debut game, Knuckles' Chaotix, on account of "STARRING ESPIO THE CHAMELEON" appearing in the title cards on various beta builds of the game.

Takashi Iizuka, director of Sonic Heroes, stated that he felt he had 'reinvented' the Espio and the other members of Team Chaotix for their 2004 return. Espio's change of age and shoes, along with his more serious attitude to that implied in other pre-Heroes media, lends some credence to this.

Espio has appeared in the following Sonic games:

Origin
Espio's debut in Knuckles' Chaotix gives a different story to the chameleon in the Japanese versus the English manuals. The former doesn't actually mention Espio (or any of the rest of the Chaotix) at all, but relates that the Chaos Rings - lost for eons on the sea bed - underwent some kind of remote reaction with the Master Emerald thanks to the descent of Angel Island in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. A new landmass has been raised out of the sea, which Dr. Robotnik swiftly seizes and converts into Newtrogic High Zone. Knuckles goes to investigate, and there finds the Chaotix, who presumably are likewise investigating.

In the English manuals, Knuckles is (for some reason) the security guard of "Carnival Island", and Robotnik is trying to drain the park's power because he apparently doesn't want to pay for his own electricity. The fat man captures Knuckles' "friends" in the Combi Confiner, and it's up to the echidna to free them and chase Robotnik off.

While Chaotix and Sonic the Fighters didn't give any of their protaganists much in the way of characterisation, in Heroes Espio is firmly established as a serious and sceptical ninja, working with Vector and Charmy as part of a rather venal detective agency. Previously of no fixed residence - like most of the rest of the cast - Team Chaotix' story shows that the detectives are based in a single-storey shack in the middle of a stagnant swamp. Which raises the question of how they expect to get any business at all.

Personality and Traits
Espio's cool and businesslike nature makes him the one straight man of Team Chaotix, having to put up with the rather more anarchic capering of Charmy and their nominal boss, Vector. Suspicious and level-headed, the chameleon isn't afraid to voice his opinion that when things look too good to be true, they usually are, though his complaints are generally ignored by his team-mates when the prospect of profit rears its head, and Espio finds himself dragged along on another madcap moneymaking scheme.

His ninja skills - and Chroma Camo ability to turn invisible - make Espio an invaluable asset to the Chaotix's detective work. The chameleon is rarely fazed by anything, and doesn't let his emotions show even amongst friends - which can be a blessing, as his level-headedness helps prop up Shadow during their fight against the Egg Breaker. Espio is often just as secretive in conversation as he is in a fight, unwilling to share information about Team Chaotix's investigations even with nominal allies like Sonic and Tails unless it's absolutely necessary.

Although Vector's "Any work that pays" philosophy has lead to Espio and his comrades working with or even for Dr. Ivo Robotnik on more than one occasion, the chameleon harbours an extreme personal dislike of the fat man himself. One can presume that most Sonic characters dislike the evil doc, but Espio's particularly strong loathing of Eggman is stated in the Japanese Chaotix manual. He's careful to place this aside when on an investigation, however, remarking during Shadow the Hedgehog that his disagreement with the Doc is purely business - at least this time.

Appearances by Game
Knuckles' Chaotix
Espio first appeared in Knuckles' Chaotix. The chameleon is the first member of the Chaotix encountered by Knuckles, after he's saved from Robotnik and Metal Sonic on Isolated Island. Espio has a variety of unusual moves in this game. He can walk up vertical surfaces, his idle animation sees him cycle through a range of different colours, and he does a spinning-top move in place of the spin dash (although in Heroes he is shown as able to perform the standard spinning-ball move). Along with Knuckles, the rest of Chaotix, and the dubious robot renegades Heavy and Bomb, Espio fights to free Newtrogic High Zone from the Doctor and the Chaos Ring boosted Metal Sonic Kai.

Sonic the Fighters
Espio appears as a playable character in Sonic the Fighters. It isn't quite known if Espio is attempting to save the world from the Death Egg II because he is getting paid to do it, or if it's because he just simply wants to save to world and be a hero, considering how the title screen demo asks the question: "Who will save the world?".

For moves, Espio uses his own unique spindash from Knuckles Chaotix, as well as his far reaching tongue. While many of Espio's moves appear to be crude and unprofessional, he shows considerable talent with both normal karate chops and his special backhand chop. This may have led to Espio's development as a ninja in later Sonic games.

In arcade mode, Espio is the fourth character that the player must defeat in order to reach Death Egg II. Espio is the holder of the (darker) purple chaos emerald in this game. He presumably uses it to perform the Espio warp while in hyper mode. This move allows the player to warp Espio close to, or behind his opponent, in a similar fashion to chaos control.

Sonic Heroes
The eight-year hiatus after Fighters ended when Sonic Heroes reintroduced Espio, along with Vector and Charmy (though Mighty the Armadillo was conspicuous by his absence). Now the trio are explicitly described as a detective agency, a profession not mentioned in Chaotix, though it had featured heavily in their portrayal in Sonic the Comic in the intervening years.

In Team Chaotix's opening sequence, they receive a parcel containing a radio transceiver. The garbled voice on the other end hires them for a job - and promises to pay handsomely. Espio is naturally suspicious, but his objections are overridden by Charmy and Vector, who have dollar signs in their eyes. After fighting their way through the Eggman Empire for an entire game, it transpires in Final Fortress that the voice at the end of the radio was Dr. Eggman himself, imprisoned by Neo Metal Sonic inside his own flagship. Duty-bound, the Chaotix free the fat scientist, although he ends up not paying them anything after Metal Overlord wrecks the Eggman Fleet.

Espio is the team's Speed Type member; the same class as Sonic, Shadow, and Amy. He's shown as able to play the samisen, this Japanese banjo being his instrument during Team Chaotix's "Team Blast" move. But given the horrible cacophony the trio create during the move, it's questionable whether or not he can play it well.

Shadow the Hedgehog
Appearing as one of the 2P-controllable partner characters, Espio accompanies the player in Mad Matrix. Throughout Shadow the Hedgehog, the eponymous Shadow encounters Team Chaotix a number of times during the Black Arms invasion. Vector mentions that they're pursuing a "big case", although who or what they're actually after is never specified. With Shadow's assistance, Espio gets into Eggman's VR mainframe, seeking to gather up some fragmented data for their investigation. The two of them are discovered by the Doctor, and fight the Egg Breaker.

Later, in the Last Story, Espio (accidentally) hacks the ARK computers to broadcast a decades-old message from Professor Gerald Robotnik. This re-invigorates Shadow on the Black Comet, enabling him to fly off and fight Devil Doom.

Sonic Rivals 2
Espio appears without his Team Chaotix comrades in Sonic Rivals 2. At the start of the game, Vector contacts him with orders to go undercover and investigate Silver the Hedgehog, whose involvement the croc suspects in a recent spate of chao disappearences. However, Espio is gradually convinced of Silver's innocence in Blue Coast Zone, and the pair work together to recover the little blue creatures. In Sunset Forest Espio ends up trying to chase down Tails, the fox having picked up some of Prof. Gerald's notes that the detective wants. Neon Palace Zone pits Silver and Espio against Knuckles and Rouge, who have picked up some chao almost by accident. Sonic and Tails stand in their way in Frontier Canyon Zone, as Espio searches for rings to recharge Silver's psychokinesis.

Sonic Free Riders
sectstub

Sonic Colours (DS)
A great number of Sonic's friends find their way into the Amazing Interstellar Amusement Park in the DS version of Sonic Colours; Team Chaotix numbering amongst them. Sonic and Tails run into the trio on Planet Wisp. While Espio is characteristicly circumspect about his motives there, Vector eventually lets the cat out of the bag: they're up in the Park on a bounty hunt for the Doctor himself.

Espio in other media
* In the Archie comics, Espio is a bona fide hothead, which causes friend Charmy to remind him of his manners.
* In Sonic the Comic, he is a friendly (or sometimes not so friendly) rival to fellow Chaotix member Mighty.
:For the eponymous game, see Shadow the Hedgehog (game).

Shadow the Hedgehog, also known as "The Ultimate Lifeform," is a recurring character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games and related media. First introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 as a villain, he soon took on the role of anti-hero, becoming yet another rival of Sonic. Because of his nature, he has also become a fan favorite, especially among those who discovered the series after SEGA ceased production of the Dreamcast.

Character Conception
After the success of Sonic Adventure, it was only natural to assume that a sequel would be produced. Hoping that the game would be what Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was for the Mega Drive, a portion of the team responsible for the first Adventure title was sent off to work at SEGA of America. Dubbed "Sonic Team USA," it was led by Director Takashi Iizuka, while Yuji Naka remained back in Japan to work on other properties, including Phantasy Star Online. With the team in place, brainstorming soon began on what form Sonic Adventure 2 would take.

Early on, it was decided that one of the main themes of the game would be the dichotomy between good and evil, and to help explore that the creators came up with new characters that would both assist Dr. Eggman and challenge the established cast of heroes. Though Yuji Uekawa was tasked drawing the final design of the character, it was Iizuka who came up with the idea to use a dark, anti-hero figure who was similar to Sonic in shape but not in personality. When being designed, his original name was Terios, which translates to "reflection of," more than likely to play off the hero/villain dynamic within the game.

Once Sonic Adventure 2 was announced, the identity and nature of Shadow was a heavily guarded secret, his existence teased at the end of the first trailer for the game. Indeed, the push to build hype for the new character put other characters on the backburner, Tails not even being announced for the game until a few months later. The marketing push for the character was so great that, when players reached the end of Adventure 2 and saw the "death" of Shadow, there were many who doubted this was the last time Shadow would appear. As it were, Iizuka would later admit that he always had future plans for the character, hoping to have him star in his own game. This eventually happened with the release of Shadow the Hedgehog for the three main systems of the era.

Shadow the Hedgehog (Video Game Character)
Origin of Shadow
:Source: Sonic Adventure 2 - The Truth of 50 Years Ago...
Fifty years before the events of Sonic Adventure 2, a top-secret project known as "Project Shadow" had begun on the Space Colony ARK. Led by Professor Gerald Robotnik, it was a government-sanctioned initiative to create "The Ultimate Lifeform," an immortal being that could be used for the benefit of the nation, likely in a militaristic fashion. While Gerald had initial misgivings to the purpose of the research he was assigned to, he realized that his results might be able to save his granddaughter, Maria. Suffering from the incurable disease Neuro Immunodeficiency Syndrome, Maria only had a short time left to live, and Gerald was willing to do whatever it took to save her life. Going against his worries of stepping into territory man had no business playing with, the professor immediately began work, hoping that he could apply any newly-gained knowledge to find a cure to N.I.D.S.

Even with the resources at his disposal, Professor Gerald was unable to make significant progress. Without alerting anyone, Gerald decided to plea to the stars for help, contacting the Black Arms race. An alien civilization that lived upon the Black Comet, a celestial object that passed near the planet every fifty years, its leader Black Doom offered to assist Gerald in his quest. He offered his blood - which ended up being the key to perfect the ultimate lifeform - in exchange for the seven Chaos Emeralds, which he would collect the next time he passed through. Knowing that the Black Arms' intentions were less than desirable, Gerald made the deal regardless, and was able to successfully create Shadow the Hedgehog.

Once brought to life, Shadow immediately befriended Maria, and they became close during their short time together. Gerald, meanwhile, made precautions for the return of the alien race, ensuring that the Eclipse Cannon - an extremely powerful laser built into the ARK - was compatible with the seven Chaos Emeralds, so that when they did return humanity would be able to defend itself instead of bowing to their whims.

However, Gerald's progress was ruined when it was leaked to G.U.N. how he was able to create the successful prototype. During the meeting between Gerald and the Black Arms, one of the other children aboard the ARK had accidentally seen what transpired, and reported back to those in charge. As ties between the ARK and the United Federation had already been strained, hearing the news of the dealings with an alien race scared those in charge. Afraid of the implications, it was decided to launch an invasion and put a stop to the work being done there.

What happened next was nothing short of madness, as G.U.N. troops descended onto the ARK, causing chaos and confusion wherever they went. Immediately they went after the Biolizard, which they thought was the successful "Project Shadow" prototype, and in the process of putting the creature into stasis lost quite a few soldiers. From there they went about doing damage control, shutting down everything, getting everyone off the ARK, and killing those who resisted if need be. Knowing that the G.U.N. forces would be there at any moment, Maria convinced Shadow to enter an escape pod, her final wish to him that he give the people on the planet a chance to be happy. Wishing him goodbye, Shadow could do nothing as he watched the G.U.N. soldiers storm into the lab, firing a shot which would forever change the artificial hedgehog.

Learning of his granddaughter's death, Professor Gerald soon went mad, swearing vengeance on humanity for taking away the only thing that ever meant anything to him. Though just what exactly transpired is cloudy, what is known is that both Gerald and the escape pod that held Shadow were gathered by G.U.N., Shadow being placed in cryogenic storage within Prison Island, and Gerald being incarcerated and charged with the crimes that happened aboard the ARK.

With the entire incident classified, the remnants of Gerald's legacy were left dormant for fifty years. It's possible they would have been forgotten entirely if not for the intervention of Dr. Eggman, Gerald's grandson. Coming across his grandfather's journals, Eggman became aware of Project Shadow, and broke into Prison Island to recover what the mysterious weapon could be. Once he reached the center of the complex, he was startled to see a hedgehog, immediately thinking it must be Sonic. Quickly, though, he realized his fears were for naught, and that some grand twist of fate caused Gerald's greatest invention to resemble his arch-nemesis. When awoken, Shadow offers Eggman his help, asking for the Chaos Emeralds in return.

Though he teamed up with Eggman, Shadow's true intentions are clouded. Indeed, not even Shadow is sure of what he is meant to do, having only vague memories of what happened to him aboard the ARK. Remembering Maria's senseless death, Shadow seeks out the remaining Chaos Emeralds, not relying on just the Doctor. The second emerald collected is also at the hand of Shadow, stolen from a facility that immediately gained the attention of G.U.N. Watching security footage, the organization believed the criminal to be Sonic the Hedgehog, a case of mistaken identity that runs through the rest of Sonic Adventure 2. When the two meet after the events of City Escape, a fierce rivalry begins, each subsequent encounter the two share ending in a fight.

With Sonic being chased by G.U.N. at every opportunity, he is unable to stop Dr. Eggman from collecting six of the seven Chaos Emeralds, and with Shadow's help Eggman learned how to access the Eclipse Cannon aboard the Space Colony ARK. Even though all seven are needed to power the weapon to its full potential, Eggman makes an announcement to the world, giving a taste of the cannon's power by attacking the moon. Seeing the stakes raised, the rest of the cast make it up to the ARK, knowing the fate of the world hangs in the balance. With the seventh emerald up for grabs, Dr. Eggman is able to secure it under the guise that he is defeated. As the heroes celebrate, thinking that have once again saved the world, Eggman made his way to the cannon, putting the final emerald in the dock. Immediately, a videotaped message of Gerald Robotnik began, declaring his hatred of humanity in his final days, hoping that the Chaos Emeralds would be gathered on the ARK and that the cannon would be turned on those who took everything away from him. As Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Rouge the Bat and even Dr. Eggman set about to stop the destruction of Earth, Shadow refused to do anything, believing he was carrying out Maria's final wish. However, a conversation with Amy Rose triggered one of Shadow’s lost memories, which allowed Shadow to finally recall her true final words. Realizing his folly, Shadow decided to join the fight, helping Sonic to stop Biolizard, a creature which was Shadow's immediate prototype.

Forced to take the battle to the stars, Sonic and Shadow unite, transforming into their Super forms and taking down Biolizard's final form, Finalhazard. Using Chaos Control, they are able transport the space colony back into its original orbit, saving the planet at the presumed cost of Shadow's life.

Time passes, and when Sonic Heroes begins, Rouge the Bat is investigating rumors of a secret treasure that Dr. Eggman has been hiding in one of his many fortresses. She is surprised to find a stasis tube holding what looks to be Shadow the Hedgehog, guarded by the final of Eggman's original line of E-series robots, E-123 Omega. With her quick thinking, she is able to convince both of them to join her to try and figure out what Eggman may be planning next. Through the game, it is made clear that Shadow remembers nothing of what happened in the past, though certain events trigger the briefest of recollections. The ambiguity of the Shadow found by Rouge is only further complicated when, when the trio make it to the Egg Fleet, they stumble across an entire fleet of Shadow-themed robots. Because of this sudden revelation, Rouge comes to the conclusion that the Shadow they have been working with might be nothing more than a robotic clone, and not the friend she lost at the end of Sonic Adventure 2.

After Metal Sonic's defeat, Shadow chooses not to remain with "Team Dark," but instead tries and find the answers of his existence on his own, wandering alone for the next two weeks. His journey takes a dramatic turn when, just outside the city of Westopolis, the Black Arms race decides to attack the planet. He is immediately contacted by the force's leader, Black Doom, who tells Shadow that humanity betrayed him and that he belongs with the invading force. As an incentive, he promises to restore Shadow's memories if he collects the seven Chaos Emeralds. Not sure what to believe, Shadow goes through the invasion as best he can, sometimes assisting the alien forces, other times helping out Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends, and on certain occasions accomplishing his own objections which serve neither side. In the end, Shadow is able to collect the emeralds, and decides to give them to Black Doom, hoping he will finally find the answers he seeks. In doing so, Shadow is finally able to realize the truth of his creation.

Every memory that Shadow once had returns, discovering the pact that Gerald had made with the Black Arms race, and the hope the professor originally had, that Shadow would stop the invading force once the time came. Renouncing the hatred of humanity that Black Doom had tried to force on him during the game, Shadow sets off to stop the invading force from using Chaos Control to transport all their forces onto Earth at once. As Shadow and Black Doom face off in one final confrontation, Dr. Eggman reveals to Shadow that he is not a clone or a robot or anything of the sort, but indeed the same Shadow from Sonic Adventure 2, and that he had used a robot to save him as he fell to earth after those events. With everything cleared up, Shadow is able to defeat Black Doom, and throws the Black Comet into the path of the Eclipse Cannon, fulfilling the hope that both Gerald and Maria had for him.

In the aftermath, Shadow decides to join G.U.N. as an agent in a similar fashion as Rouge the Bat, looking to the future instead of being forever trapped in his past as he had allowed himself to be since his introduction in the series.

Personality and Traits
Shadow the Hedgehog is a black and red hedgehog, and though his physical appearance points to him being the same age as Sonic, he is actually much older due to his time spent in hibernation under the care of G.U.N. Though his physical appearance is purely hedgehog, his DNA is a combination of hedgehog and that of the Black Arms alien race, and it is because of this combination that allows his ease of using the energy of the Chaos Emeralds for his own purposes.

Designed to be "The Ultimate Lifeform," it has been said that Shadow is nothing short of immortal, though this claim has been untested. It has been shown that Shadow is incredibly resilient, if his fall from space is anything to go by. His power over the Chaos Emeralds only adds to his title, his trademark ability being that of "Chaos Control." Needing only the power from one Chaos Emerald, Shadow is able to bend space and time around him at his will, allowing him to traverse great distances in only a short amount of time. However, he can only maintain this state for a limited amount.

Shadow also has the ability to manifest Chaos energy as a physical force, and use it to attack his enemies. Chaos Spear, his most often used form, is the formation of energy into a lightning bolt, Shadow throwing it to deliver damage. A cruder form of this, Chaos Blast, is a generic explosion which is designed to damage anything around him. Along with Chaos Boost, Chaos Snap, and Chaos Attack, Shadow has developed a wide variety of attacks which utilize a Chaos Emerald. With one of those magical gems, Shadow is a nearly unstoppable force.

Even without an emerald, Shadow is still a being to be reckoned with, as he has many of the same abilities that Sonic the Hedgehog possess. Just like Sonic, he can curl up into a spin attack and attack enemies. He also can build up speed with the classic spin dash, and aim at combatants with the homing attack. However, Shadow does not possess the same blistering speed that Sonic has. To make up for this shortcoming, Shadow wears a pair of Air Shoes, which give Shadow's running an extra boost, allowing him to keep up with Sonic most of the time. It also gives Shadow the ability to hover over the ground for short periods, though he doesn't often exercise this.

While Shadow's physical abilities are nothing to be trifled with, Shadow is not against the idea of using weaponry if need be. Guns, missiles, bazookas, or any other armaments that the military force G.U.N. has at their disposal are fair game for the artificial hedgehog to use. Even vehicles like tanks are not off-limits to Shadow, many of the preceding weapons serving him in numerous situations in his self-titled game.

Though he is often compared to Sonic, Shadow's personality is quite the opposite. Instead of being a joyful, carefree spirit, Shadow the Hedgehog is often a moody, discontented soul. Born through a more artificial means, he began questioning his true purpose while on the ARK, long before the moments that would scar his life. The only thing he has ever truly cared about, the only person he ever considered a friend, was Maria Robotnik, and when he watched her murdered in front of his eyes, everything changed. Most of his life has been spent thinking of her, and wishing to honor her memory, even when he wasn't sure what it was she would have wanted. Because of this, he has never been trusting of humans, something which manifested during the events of Shadow the Hedgehog. Even though he now remembers his past and has fulfilled Maria's promise thrice over, he still has a great dislike for humanity, something he tries to work through now that he works directly for them. Indeed, his trust for humans has shown to increase slightly, balking at Mephilis' prediction that humanity would turn against him and blame him for the destruction Solaris would cause in the future. However, as those events took place in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, the entire plot was retconned, though it can be assumed that Shadow's attempt at accepting humanity is still occurring. He also been shown to at least accept from others, including Rouge the Bat who also has ties to the G.U.N. organization.

Also, like many other characters in the games, Shadow is able to use the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Shadow, though he is still bound by the same ring-consumption limitation that the other characters in the series have.

Shadow in Other Media
Just as the case has been for Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog has been adapted to fit in other media.

Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie comics)
Introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 98, Shadow the Hedgehog's origins are played out in a similar way to the game. His captivity in Prison Island, his emergence by Dr. Eggman's hand, his creation by Professor Gerald Robotnik, and his relationship with Maria aboard the Space Colony ARK are all present. Seeking out the Chaos Emeralds, Shadow even reproduces the case of mistaken identity, causing the forces of Station Square to go after Sonic. However, unlike the games, the comics make it clear that Gerald was able to get a hold of Shadow after the tragic events aboard the ARK, and was responsible for his fuzzy memories of what Maria wanted.

After defeating Finalhazard, it was not Eggman who rescued the falling Shadow but the alien race known as the Bem, a peaceful species who felt that Shadow needed to be saved for the upcoming Xorda invasion. Once he awoke, the Bem made Shadow transform into his super state, setting him against the Xorda ship entering Mobius space. Though he fought valiantly, he was unable to stop them, crashing back onto the surface where he was subsequently discovered by the residents of Knothole. Forming a temporary alliance with them, he joined Sonic and the gang to fight off the Xorda invasion, who wanted to wipe out intelligent life on the planet to pay for crimes that had been committed millennia ago by human beings to a Xorda ambassador.

After the Xorda's defeat, Shadow was left to drift alone, deciding to eventually confront Dr. Eggman. It was there that he met Hope Kintobor, Eggman's cousin who looked extremely similar to Maria. Becoming protective of her, Shadow would become angered if she was placed in danger, his feelings for Maria influencing any action involving Hope. It was because of Eggman's relation to Maria that made Shadow join forces with him for a time, although he only stayed a part of his force until he could get a hold of Gerald's diaries (Hope having already found refuge in Knothole and, later on, Station Square). Asking for help from the Freedom Fighters, Shadow was able to talk to holographic versions of Gerald and Maria, learning about his Black Arms heritage and how they would eventually be coming, ready to attack the planet.

With this knowledge, Shadow went off to Station Square, where he joined up with G.U.N., working alongside Rouge the Bat once again. Eventually recruiting E-123 Omega and forming "Team Dark," Shadow is once again able to keep an eye on Hope, all the while trying to keep peace on Mobius, waiting for the day where he may be called to fight against the oncoming forces of Black Doom.

Sonic X
Once again, Shadow the Hedgehog's introduction in Sonic X is quite similar to that of Sonic Adventure 2. Revealed in episode 33, "The Puzzle of Project Shadow," he is awoken by Dr. Eggman in yet another attempt at global domination. Many of the same events occur as they do in the games, as the arc Shadow is used in is a direct adaptation. Driven by his promise to Maria, the anime makes one notable difference as it is Chris Thorndyke, not Amy Rose, which triggers the return of Shadow's memory and his true promise to Maria. Realizing his folly, he joins Sonic to battle Finalhazard, the result being his assumed death.

It is discovered in the second series that Shadow did not perish, but was instead rescued by Dr. Eggman, who put him in stasis. His fate is discovered in episode 60, "The Return of Shadow," and when he is awoken he remembers nothing of his past, save for a vague image of Maria. He once again takes on the role of anti-hero, helping to fight off the Meterex while at the same time not getting along with Sonic and the gang. There is one episode in which Shadow befriends Molly, a teenage girl that reminds him of Maria. However, he is unable to prevent fate from happening again, Molly sacrificing herself to save others during a Meterex attack. At the end of the series, Shadow once again becomes instrumental in stopping the villain, doing it not only for Maria but for Molly.

In the Sonic X comic book series, Shadow only appears once, though it is the Shadow from the main Archie series. Sent there during a battle with Metal Sonic, Shadow encounters the Sonic X cast some point after his doppelganger was presumed dead.

Miscellaneous
*Though the design of Shadow the Hedgehog was meant to be a secret until such time SEGA decided to reveal it in all its glory, details of the character were leaked when ReSaurus announced they were making figures of Shadow and Rouge, much as they had for the first Adventure title. Ironically, the company went out of business before they could release these figures to the masses.

*During the promotion of his spin-off game, Shadow was used as a guest announcer and performer for the Japanese wrestling league Pancrase, jumping and posing in the ring. The night ended in Shadow giving the winner of that night's matches ten SEGA games.

*The fact Shadow uses guns in Shadow the Hedgehog was based on suggestions mailed to Sonic Team, where kids were asking for a game where Sonic could use a gun. Feeling it out of his character, they decided to give the ability to Shadow, hoping to both fulfill these requests and broaden their playing audience. The look and feel of the game was also based on such movie franchises as Underworld, Constantine, and The Terminator.

*Though Shadow has been voted one of the most popular Sonic the Hedgehog characters, he is also one of the most controversial. Having become synonymous with the downturn of the Sonic franchise, there are those who argue that he is the embodiment of what has gone wrong with the series, showcasing how far it has strayed from its Mega Drive roots. Other fans argue that while the series may have strayed, Shadow has also allowed the games to evolve, and broaden Sonic's universe and appeal. Regardless of which way one looks at the argument, it cannot be denied the importance of the character in regards to the history of the Sonic franchise, be it good or bad.

*For years, the elements of Shadow's backstory have been the subject of much fan debate. Even with the translation of story elements from Japanese guidebooks and the subsequent release of Shadow the Hedgehog, the many plotholes and inconsistencies in Shadow's story still inspire argument after argument over the black and red hedgehog, making any sort of explanation of the character a difficult endeavor.
