The V. Maximum Overdrive Attack[1], also known as Overdrive (オーバードライブ[2]), is one of the signature moves of Metal Sonic throughout the Sonic the Hedgehog series and alternate media.

Overview

When performing this move, Metal Sonic overloads his circuitry with energy which in turn emits blue sparks from his body, then forms a glowing energy field around his body, propelling him at four times his normal acceleration. By doing this, Metal Sonic can break through any surface and inflict damage to any character in his path. However, there are serious disadvantages to using this technique as prolonged use can destroy Metal Sonic's body[3].

The V. Maximum Overdrive Attack is first used to break through the spikes that block a rolling tunnel to kidnap Amy Rose at the beginning of Collision Chaos. He later uses the move during his first fight against Sonic the Hedgehog on Stardust Speedway - whenever Sonic is in the lead, Metal Sonic will activate the move and fly across the speedway to overtake Sonic, making him certainly more dangerous for Sonic.
