From Sonic Retro

I think that the Template should change back from having the comics listed by dates. The eras in the comic usually are referred to by the milestone issues, like 1-25, 25-50, etc. rather than by the years they came out, plus it looks much better and takes up less space. Story names

Is adding in all those story names to the template necessary in any way? --BSonirachi (talk) 16:12, 7 July 2018 (CDT)

Yes, seems a bit of a waste of time, given that there's more than one story per comic. All it does is make this massive template even more massive.
I would be tempted to take some design cues from our Omni templates and make things both more compact and more "visual"
e.g.
60px 60px 60px 60px 60px
Or maybe get some (working) DPL involved on the main Archie comics page and dump this noise there. It would be a good excuse for someone to go out hunting for covers, although might start getting problematic when PDFs arrive.
At the very least, text-align: center; -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:39, 9 July 2018 (CDT)
So I guess I should undo the most recent edit? --BSonirachi (talk) 19:51, 9 July 2018 (CDT)
Go for it -Black Squirrel (talk) 05:30, 10 July 2018 (CDT)

Brain hurts

I have uploaded the first 200 covers of Archie Sonic. I haven't the heart to do the rest - it gets a bit messy with the digital versions and alternative covers that have become all the rage in the last 10 years.

Similarly I've uploaded all the remaining STCs up to 165 (and am about the search for the remaining 8) - I'm going to leave the page making to someone else because it's tedious and I need to grow back some brain cells. Everything else is also up for grabs -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:10, 24 September 2019 (EDT)

Isn't there an automated process that you are using to make all of those pages, because I'm seeing the new pages pop up within seconds of each other. --BSonirachi (talk) 14:40, 24 September 2019 (EDT)
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V ;) -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:46, 24 September 2019 (EDT)
I can hit you up with the remaining pages for StC, as I've organised a little template to get things rolling for them (like what I did for the Sonic Adventure story arc issues). I would actually fill these pages myself with story synopses, but that's way too much of a task for just one person. --BSonirachi (talk) 14:52, 24 September 2019 (EDT)

Went up to 250 because I'm a masochist.

In what I can only assume is to screw collectors over, pretty much every issue after 247 (and issue 50 of Sonic Universe) has at least two variant covers. That's like, double the work for me, and while I can't rule out doing it anyway, I probably shouldn't.

Other things of note:

  • Digital versions exist, and they usually don't have barcodes.
  • Much like the IDW comics, cover artwork was released separately
  • There are prototype covers. This mainly concerns the compilation books (see: my Sonic Archives replacement images versus the original ones), but Archie announced this things months in advance. Some comics were never published because they lost the license, but bits were shown off anyway.
  • There is also promotional material

Translations

Time to get messy.

In France there are two "Les Origines" books and at least seven others by Delcourt Jeunesse. Sonic X might have been translated as well. There's also at least one IDW book.

In Germany there are at least 9 (relatively recent) issues of Sonic the Hedgehog by Panini Comics and a "Sonderband 1" collection. There's also a magazine, also by Panini, also featuring Archie Comics content, also called Sonic the Hedgehog.

There could be quite a bit in Portugal.

Early Archie comics were released in Brazil. I might go find them -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:03, 26 September 2019 (EDT)

Here's something interesting to take in: IDW Sonic is being printed in Persian.
And on that note, the IDW graphic novel line is being printed in Spanish. --BSonirachi (talk) 11:10, 27 November 2019 (EST)

Pack-ins

Don't yet know how best to cope with these - comic variants were included alongside action figures:

  • Sonic #25 - Sonic + Tails (Tomy)
  • Sonic #136 - Comic Book Pack (Espio/Knuckles) (Jazwares)
  • Sonic #136 - Comic Book Pack (Vector/Espio) (Jazwares)

  • Sonic #207 - 200th Issue Comic Book Pack (Sonic/Knuckles; Jazwares)
  • Sonic #207 - Comic Book Pack (Sonic/Amy; Jazwares)
  • Sonic #207 - Comic Book Pack (Sonic/Metal Sonic; Jazwares)
  • Sonic #218 - Sonic & Blaze (Jazwares)
  • Sonic #226 - Sonic & Amy (Jazwares)

  • Sonic the Hedgehog: Rival (Metal Sonic/Classic Metal Sonic (Tomy)

-Black Squirrel (talk) 15:12, 30 September 2019 (EDT)

I think putting them next to the other variants would be fine, with the caption linking to the the relevant merchandise page.
One thing to note however - the "Hero" and "Rival" comics aren't Archie. They're English translations of Sonic Channel's "Sonic Comic". I believe those action figure packs were released or announced during the transition from Archie to IDW. --Pecky (talk) 15:20, 30 September 2019 (EDT)

Cover priority

So what is exactly the intended priority for cover formats on the wiki when it comes to physical scans vs. digital cover images, if I may ask? Usually I pick out the digital ones that come from official solicitations. --BSonirachi (talk) 13:08, 1 October 2019 (EDT)

Physical -> Digital
There are cases where a cover has been shown off to the world in a digital format, well in advance of it actually being printed, only for changes to occur in-between. File:SonicArchives5.jpg is a good example -Black Squirrel (talk) 12:22, 5 October 2019 (EDT)
