Sonic the Hedgehog The Screen Saver (ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ・ザ・スクリーンセーバー) is a 1996 program by Sega for the PC featuring Sonic series art, music and icons for customizing the user's Windows environment. The program is bundled with the North American and European copies of Sonic & Knuckles Collection and sold as a stand-alone product in Japan.

Content

The screen saver features Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman sprites that animate between Sonic pictures. If the user chooses, they can play music from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles and the Japanese version of Sonic CD, though the latter only features music from the present and past versions of each level. Some versions of the North American and European versions may also contain music from the Good and Bad Future levels.

When installed, the screen saver creates a program group in either Program Manager (Windows 3.1) or the Start Menu (Windows 95 and later) which include programs to view the images and music used in the screen saver as well as a gallery of icons. The images can also be set as desktop wallpapers through these programs. Configuring the screensaver itself is done through Windows' Control Panel applets, and the user can choose which images and music to play.

Sonic the Hedgehog The Screen Saver can be installed on computers running Windows 3.1 or later. As it is a 16-bit program, it is not supported by 64-bit versions of Windows.
