Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (alpha)/Comparisons/Casino Night Zone

From Sonic Retro

Back to: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (alpha)/Comparisons.

Casino Night Zone is still a work-in-progress and isn't ready for normal play yet, but more work has been done on it since the Simon Wai prototype. All Rings and objects are still missing.

Casino Night Zone retains its pink colour scheme from the Simon Wai prototype, but is more "solid". The missing tiles have been filled in with animated panels depicting card suits.

The background has been changed from the Simon Wai prototype. It's more detailed now, though it would still be replaced before the final release.

This half-pipe was fixed from the Simon Wai prototype, and it's impossible to fall through it.

Final game

Surprisingly, given that there are no objects in the Zone, Catcher Eggman exists. It drops harmless glitchy spike balls on Sonic and moves around in circles. If the player goes far to the right after the boss has been loaded, its graphics will corrupt and use pieces of a Signpost. The player can defeat it, but Sonic will be pushed off to the right and die.

If debug mode is used to avoid dying, the Zone will end and the game will advance the player to Chemical Plant Zone (which comes next in Zone ID order) rather than Hill Top Zone.
