Sonic the Fugitive is the 34th episode in the first season of Sonic X. In the English dub, it is known as Shadow Knows. This episode is the second part of the series' adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2.
Summary
The episode begins with Sonic escaping a GUN helicopter. GUN robots pursue him, but he evades them by running into the sewers. From the soldiers' remarks, it becomes clear that Sonic is accused of causing trouble on Prison Island. Soon, a news report shows Shadow stealing the green Chaos Emerald from an art museum; the military mistakes him for Sonic again and ramps up its search.
When the GUN robot F-6t BIG FOOT catches up with Sonic, he destroys it easily, but then meets Shadow standing atop its ruined corpse. The two hedgehogs first race each other, then fight, but Shadow's ability to use Chaos Control with a single Chaos Emerald brings him easy victory. GUN and Chris catch up to Sonic as Shadow finally warps away. The GUN troops demand that Sonic surrender peacefully, and Chris begs him to comply. Moved by Chris' insistence, Sonic turns himself in for the moment, though he resolves that the next time he and Shadow meet, it will be a fair fight.
As Dr. Eggman celebrates Shadow's success, Rouge arrives with a Chaos Emerald and a bouquet of flowers, and Eggman agrees to her terms in exchange for the locations of the rest of the Emeralds.
As the episode ends, there are two rescue operations headed towards Sonic's cell on Prison Island: Chris and Tanaka on a boat, and Tails and Amy in the X-Tornado. Sonic himself is kept in a cell seemingly tailor-made for him, suspended in a water-filled chamber...but with Gerald Robotnik's scribbling still covering the cell walls.
