Showdown has many subtle differences in this prototype compared to the final. It is almost entirely devoid of sound effects, save for common objects seen in prior levels.

Unlike other levels, collecting Chaos Emeralds won't display an animation, and the player's current momentum is preserved.

The Badniks that block the exits will display a different message when destroyed. Their behaviour is also different - in this prototype, they are completely indestructible until all Chaos Emeralds have been collected. After collecting them, they just disappear. In the final game, they were given the "disappear and then respawn" designation already seen in Lava Powerhouse, and the requirement to permanently destroy them was changed to "destroy all the blocks from the table they are in".

The easy-to-hit Badnik that displays the "ROBOTNIK IS GETTING AWAY" message when destroyed isn't here yet.

Falling down the outlanes when no safety rocks have been activated will not play the danger chord.

The messages displayed when hitting the trigger beneath the boss are more helpful, informing the player when the boss' hazards are removed or restored. In the final, they were replaced with randomised nondescript messages (with the exception of the infamous "SMELL MY SOCKS!!" message), making the boss more reliant on trial-and-error.

The final boss is invincible. Due to this, the game cannot be beaten.
