It is being developed in GameMaker Studio 2 using the Harmony Framework.

Story

The nefarious Dr. Eggman is at it again!

Just off the trickling coast at the edge of Sonic’s birthplace, Christmas Island, stands the glorious Sunrise Gate and the power source embedded deep in its majesty, Phossil - the doctor’s old go-to for his dastardly schemes. After emerging out of an artificial Chaos Ring; traversing through treacherous and unusual locales. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy must collect the Chaos Emeralds and put a stop to Dr. Eggman once more! The state of the Nexus Dimension is in your hands!

Go, Sonic! Everyone is counting on you!

Gameplay

Sonic Legends, much like the 16-bit titles and Sonic Mania, is a 2D pixel-based momentum action platformer. This means that the A, B or C buttons all function similarly to one another during gameplay.

Every character is able to jump and perform a Spindash by holding the Down button and pressing the A, B or C buttons while standing still.

holding the Down button while moving allows the characters to curl up into a ball, allowing them to roll down slopes faster than they would on foot.

If the player is airborne while not in ball state, pressing the A, B or C buttons will make the character aircurl.

The player can collect rings to sustain themselves from death, but will lose all rings when taking damage (unless protected by an item to prevent this). Collecting 100 rings or accumulating 50.000 points will reward the player with an extra life.

Characters

SonicLegends Artwork Sonic.png
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic is the general all-rounder of the group, with no vertical ability to speak of, Sonic excels at maintaining momentum on the ground.

Pressing and the A, B or C button after jumping will allow Sonic to perform the Drop Dash! With this, he is able to maintain momentum, as well as dash in the opposing direction without needing to stop!

Sonic is also able to perform the Super Peel-Out by holding the Up button and pressing the A, B or C buttons while standing still*.

Alongside this, Sonic is also able to perform abilities given to him by the Elemental Shields. These relinquish his Drop Dash in favor of an ability that helps his mobility either vertically or horizontally.

SonicLegends Artwork Tails.png
Miles "Tails" Prower
Thanks to his twin tails allowing to act as propellers, Tails excels at aerial mobility by pressing the A, B or C buttons after jumping to enter flight. You can then keep pressing those buttons to ascend to the skies or swim through treacherous obstacles while underwater!

Be careful, as Tails will get tired if he keeps flying for too long!

Holding the Down button whilst in flight will allow Tails to descend to the ground much faster.

SonicLegends Artwork Knuckles.png
Knuckles the Echidna
Knuckles is perfect for the explorative type! Holding the A, B or C buttons while jumping will allow him to glide over obstacles and into enemies. Hitting a wall while gliding will allow Knuckles to cling onto it. Pressing up or down will allow Knuckles to scale the wall safely.

When on a wall, holding a sideways directional button and pressing the A, B or C buttons will allow Knuckles to perform a Climb Dash. This will allow him to roll upwards.

Alongside that, Knuckles can also break any wall without needing to roll into them, including those not accessible by other characters.

Experiment with Knuckles, and you may face an entirely different adventure ahead of you.

SonicLegends Artwork Amy.png
Amy Rose
Amy allows for newcomers to get accustomed to the game, but also rewards skillful play to those that take full advantage of her abilities.

Hold the A, B or C buttons while jumping to perform a Hammer Spin. In this state, Amy will protect herself with her Piko Piko Hammer, giving her more range for enemies and bosses, as well as deflect projectiles. When hitting the ground or a wall, Amy will bounce upwards, releasing her from this state. Holding the A, B or C buttons again afterwards will allow Amy to use her Hammer again.
