Series: Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series)
First seen: "Heads or Tails"

The SWATbots (also Swatbot) are humanoid robotic shock troopers from the American Sonic the Hedgehog television and comic book continuities. Designed by Warlord Julian Kintobor (who would later become the evil Dr. Robotnik) for use during the Great War, early SWATbot units were initially under the control of the Kingdom of Acorn, but were reprogrammed when Julian rechristened himself Dr. Robotnik and took near total control of Mobius in the year 3224. Years later, Robotnik programmed all SWATbot units with the code "Priority One", which ordered them to specifically pursue the Mobian rebel Sonic on sight, who became the dictator's arch-nemesis.

History

Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series)

Five seconds, Dr. Robotnik.

In the Sonic SatAM TV series, they are voiced by Jim Cummings. They are very strong and can take a while to defeat. However, Sonic's spin can beat them with ease.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

SWATbots appeared in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog finale Sonic Christmas Blast.

Sonic Underground

You are under arrest!

The SWATbots appear in the TV series Sonic Underground. They come in several variations, use multiple vehicles and weapons, and all have orders to capture any Freedom Fighters. However, these SWATbots are very weak, being able to be destroyed by water or laser blasts and having an easily accessed control panel on their arm to give them a small shut down. The Swatbots of this series sound more robotic than past appearances. They were all voiced by Maurice LaMarche.

Sonic Underground (LCD game)

SWATbots make their first game appearance in the Sonic Underground LCD Game where they are the most common enemy. It is best to use Knuckles the Echidna as he can deal with them quickly do to his strength. In the game, they attack using laser blasters on their arms. In the final boss battle Dr. Robotnik can call a small army to attack the player.

Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie comics)

In the Archie comics series, there are supposedly improved models of SWATbots called Shadowbots, created by Robo-Robotnik. He claims they are superior to their predecessors, but a past conflict between the original Robotnik's SWATbots seemed to prove otherwise. Shadowbots usually sport a metallic black color, much like their TV show counterparts. The Delta-class Shadowbot was soon replaced by a larger, more destructive model dubbed the Gamma-class Shadowbot. Eggman has unleashed what he calls "SWATbot Mk IIs" as of late, but so far there do not appear to be any major improvements made over the Gamma-class.

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood

SWATbots make an appearance as enemies in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood along with stronger versions named "SWATbot Mk.II" which serve as an Act 3 boss. A SWATbot which has lost its programming also appears and remains neutral unless the player reminds it that it works for Eggman. At that point a battle will ensue.

Variants

Combots

The Combots are superior versions of the SWATbot model. Far more intelligent and capable of camouflage, they are the ultimate military robots. Many are in service to Crocbot, the sub-boss of Downunda. They despise the inferior SWATbots, one of the few signs of open intelligence among Robotnik's robot army.

Dynamac 3000

A highly adaptable robot model, the Dynamac 3000 can transform to fit any given situation. As such, it is the ultimate unit of the SWATbot class. The Dynamac model is so powerful that the only way to defeat it is by shorting it out through a massive electric shock. One Dynamac 3000 was dispatched by Robotnik to serve as sub-boss of the western sector of the Knothole continent, but it was destroyed by the Freedom Fighters before any permanent harm was done.
