A Messenger from Meteoric Shower is the 1st episode in the second season, and the 53rd overall episode of Sonic X. In the English dub, it is known as A Cosmic Call.

Summary

High above his home planet, Super Sonic battles against a mysterious, metallic purple enemy (who will later be identified as Dark Oak.) His foe proves to be quite a challenge, and when it seems that Sonic will not be able to win, Dark Oak demands for Sonic to hand over the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic takes a page from Knuckles' tactics: rather than handing the Emeralds over, he uses Chaos Control to scatter them around the galaxy so that his enemy will have to go find them. Dark Oak issues an order for his forces to gather the Emeralds, and Sonic, now unable to sustain his super form, falls to the planet's surface.

Meanwhile, Tails, Amy, Cream, and Cheese sit on a hill, watching a meteor shower. As the meteors begin streaking by, one falls to the ground and lands nearby. When they investigate, it turns out to be an escape pod. It has opened in the crash, and Cosmo is lying outside it, unconscious. They take her to Cream's house to treat her injuries.

Sonic is also recovering from his fall from space, and wakes up to find himself in the care of none other than Dr. Eggman. Eggman explains that he doesn't want Sonic dying in his neighborhood, but Sonic doesn't stick around to tell them what happened. Rouge witnesses the exchange through a grate.

Cosmo awakens, but refuses to give her name or explain herself to anyone but Sonic. As Tails and the others puzzle over this, a large mech lands in the forest nearby, and begins a plan to retrieve a Planet Egg by destroying the nearby trees. Knuckles sees it and attacks, and Tails joins him in the X-Tornado, with Cosmo as a passenger. Cosmo identifies the mech as one of the Metarex, and says that normal attacks won't work on it. When Sonic arrives, even a spin attack is not very effective.

Meanwhile, back in his own world, Chris finishes his dimensional transporter device that will take him to Sonic's world. He activates the machine alone, leaving a note for his friends and family that he promises to return.

Sonic and his friends fight bravely, but with the Chaos Emeralds gone, Sonic is at a disadvantage. Eventually the Metarex blows open a crater and takes the Planet Egg out of it. Cosmo explains that a Planet Egg is a planet's life force: if it is stolen, life on the planet dies. Sure enough, as the Metarex leaves with the Egg, the forest begins to wither. Cosmo jumps from the X-Tornado and introduces herself to Sonic, but before she can fully explain her request to him, Tails arrives with the news that the Master Emerald is glowing.

Everyone runs to the Master Emerald to investigate, and Chris emerges from it. He initially rejoices that his experiment was a success, but his joy turns to shock as he realizes that he reverted to his younger self in transit.
