Template:ChaotixEnemies - Seeing as you made the page and presumably know which badniks are actually IN Chaotix from a list or something, can you image in the relevant ones from Template:SCDEnemies? Thanks Overlord 14:35, 21 June 2009 (CDT)

Thank you! Overlord 15:58, 21 June 2009 (CDT)

np -Black Squirrel 15:59, 21 June 2009 (CDT)

Apparently asking pretty much the same as Overlord; I've imaged all the Sonic Triple Trouble badniks (Category:Sonic Triple Trouble Screenshots), but aside from the obvious ones I don't know which weird Japanese names refer to which robots. Any chance you could match the names to the faces on Template:SonTripleTroubleEnemies? Frozen Nitrogen 19:16, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Done... sort-of. I don't really have the time to rip the individual sprites at the moment but I made a few placeholder pages for you -Black Squirrel 17:29, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

How come

Why can I not upload files or create pages? I have the Sonic the Hedegehog in the fourth dimension book and want to make the article for it.--Tailsdude99 18:43, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

I wouldn't know - you'll have to contact an admin. That being said, thumbnails aren't actually rendering properly at the moment if that's the error you're getting. -Black Squirrel 18:47, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Ok do you know any admins on here?--Tailsdude99 18:48, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Gold Cartridge?

I have recently noticed that Sega used Gold Cartridges for the SMS games. So did Samsung sometime later on. Are they just plainly suppose to be limited editions or do they have any purpose? (Already asked Mathuser :V)(http://cfile1.uf.tistory.com/image/156295474D1A1F7A04A6EE) -Slimer --아힝흥행 00:38, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm under the impression that Sega called all the SMS cartridges they published "Gold Cartridges" (at least, in Japan).
It's a fairly meaningless title, probably used to differentiate Master System games from SG-1000 ones, but every Japanese SMS game was published by Sega so there's quite a lot of "Gold Cartridges". Interestingly there are two exceptions - Argos no Juujiken and Solomon no Kagi: Oujo Rihita no Namida, both published by Salio and given the title of "Silver Cartridge". Bizarrely limited editions such as Great Ice Hockey opt for the western packaging.
I've no idea what the situation was in South Korea - I imagine they just copied the Japanese naming scheme for a bit before switching to something more unique. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the unlicensed variants copied the Japanese design for "authenticity" -Black Squirrel 16:02, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
I see, thanks. Samsung did do Gold Cartridge back than. They still did it for Mega Drive Games too surprisingly. (Micheal Jackson's moon walker Gold Carts and other stuff.) Thats pretty interesting, maybe subscription limited editions? --아힝흥행 20:08, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
If you wanna do some more loooking, I can't find a box for Sonic R for Tiger LCD. I checked EBay and google image search and I don't know where else to search.--MathUser 22:35, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Good job with the box scans.

Just wanted to say that. Good to see work is still being done on the wiki--MathUser 16:50, 28 December 2014 (UTC)

New vandal

Hi, There are new accounts used to hit Sonic Retro and I've reverted a number of pages by those vandals. The vandalism only accounts that are on the wiki need to be banned including their IP address that needs to bechecked and blocked:

Thanks in regards.--Crazy Muzzarino (talk) 10:06, 14 July 2017 (CDT)

Users have been dealt with for now. Hopefully we can get the XenForo migration done sometime in the near future, because then user accounts will be linked, which will make this less of an issue. ---GerbilSoft (talk) 12:30, 14 July 2017 (CDT)

Lavagaming1

I don't know about this user, but this appears to be one of the sockpuppets of the previously banned user from earlier. Could you analyze it and find out what that account is?--Crazy Muzzarino (talk) 18:42, 1 August 2017 (CDT)

About mock-ups.

Ok, i will delete mock-ups from my page and upload them to forum. - User:DelayHacks

Question about references

Say, is there any point to adding a References section to pages that don't have any reference links in them? --BSonirachi (talk) 14:40, 29 March 2018 (CDT)

Absolutely - it means nobody has to write these sections later, and (hopefully) encourages people to add references.
The time might also come where I replace all of these sections en masse with a lovely template that points out which pages don't have any references. Right now that's most of them though. -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:44, 29 March 2018 (CDT)
But won't there be pages where finding and adding references to them just won't be possible at all given the content these pages would have? --BSonirachi (talk) 14:46, 18 April 2018 (CDT)
Maybe, but we're prepared for whenever the day arises. I think it's a good habit to get into, even if these sections remain blank (perhaps one day we'll figure out a system of hiding the blank ones) -Black Squirrel (talk) 14:51, 18 April 2018 (CDT)

Sonic advert

Hi.I wanted to ask if you can insert this file https://retrocdn.net/File:Sonic1_MD_TV_advert_GR.mp4 to this page http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_(16-bit)_television_advertisements I wanted to insert it a few times but unfortunately I have some error. Thanks for your help.-Lukdriver14

Looks like a software bug - I'll let the bosses know -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:05, 29 September 2018 (CDT)
Unfortunately, the problem is still there and this error is also on Sega Retro.-Lukdriver14

Comic pages and pending move requests

It's exhausting work, but so far I have written up the entirety of Sonic the Comics adaptation of Sonic Adventure and nailed down all of the reprint-only issues that followed it. It would also be a good idea that you check the covers you upload for details such as release dates, prices, credits and any free gifts that came with the issues, and links to previous and next issues.

Also, the IDW comics need to be added to the Printed Media tab on the wiki's header so they're easier for visitors to access. Dunno why it was never done in the first place when the comics came out.

And one last thing, several pages have pending move requests, some which have been pending for a while:

--BSonirachi (talk) 18:14, 19 March 2019 (EDT)

Dooone
All the release details for STC already exist at sega:Template:IssueNameStore/UK (N-Z) - I'd think we'd rather make that table cross-wiki than write it all out again. Progress on that sort of thing is slow and out of my control. -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:45, 20 March 2019 (EDT)

Text replacement assistance needed

So I have decided to give the affiliation field for Template:EnemyBob the same kind of automation treatment that the games field has, but I do have one problem on my hand: I have to edit a LOT of pages I already assigned affiliations to in order to accommodate for the changes, which is going to be very tedious to do manually. Since you have that text replacement tool handy, could you use that to change everything for me please?

I also added {{{affiliation2}}} for the case of enemies with more than one affiliation (such as Badniks that fell under the Deadly Six's control in Sonic Lost World), so you'll probably need to accommodate for those as well. --BSonirachi (talk) 12:54, 25 July 2019 (EDT)

Other episodes titled "The Last Resort"

I made "The Last Resort" a disambiguation page as AoStH and Sonic Underground also have episodes with the same title, and I added a link to the disambiguation page in the Sonic X episode page itself. Wouldn't it have been better if the Sonic X episode was retitled to "The Last Resort (Sonic X episode)"? --BSonirachi (talk) 11:54, 24 August 2019 (EDT)

I ignored the warning because I'm stoopid - fixed -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:37, 24 August 2019 (EDT)

Sonic Chaos bosses

If the English names are supposed to take priority over Japanese names, then why have the remaining English names been moved to the Japanese ones? Shouldn't it be the other way round, especially considering the US manual names all of them? --BSonirachi (talk) 14:32, 4 November 2019 (EST)

Old file deletion

AniGIFs are bulky, so I'll need to have the older versions of these two files deleted:

--BSonirachi (talk) 16:52, 24 November 2019 (EST)

I've thought about doing animated GIFs myself, but I can't get good frame rates on this machine. As long as the results look alright (which these do) I've got no issues -Black Squirrel (talk) 17:25, 24 November 2019 (EST)
What I used to make those GIFs was BizHawk's ability to record AVI/WAVs, which can be configured to output recordings as GIFs. Combined with things like advancing frame by frame by pressing a key, I can make good aniGIFs. Give it a try sometime. --BSonirachi (talk) 17:46, 24 November 2019 (EST)

"In other media" - common enemies, Zones

In the past we'd talked about giving recurring enemies (Buzz Bomber, Moto Bug etc.) a page per game, much like we have for Metal Sonic boss fights and the multiple Green Hill Zones. How should "in other media" sections be handled for Green Hill Zone and, in future, enemies?

Might it be worthwhile to rename and reformat the Green Hill Zone disambiguation page into something of a "hub"? I'm thinking along the lines of:

1. A one/two sentence blurb/overview
2. The current "Levels" section (rename to "Game appearances" for consistency?) linking to each individual page
2b. Similar/Related Levels? (Emerald Hill Zone, etc.)
3. In other media

Also, in terms of each enemy having its own page per game, I'm guessing this would also apply to the 16-bit and 8-bit versions of Sonic Spinball? --Pecky (talk) 11:57, 7 March 2020 (EST)

Sounds like a good plan - I would probably turn the current Green Hill Zone disambiguation page into this "hub" and stick it in Category:Locations
The Spinball enemies would be split up, yes. I would hope that one day there'll be a meaty "Technical information" section for each which should be quite different for each game -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:04, 7 March 2020 (EST)
Great! I'll try to get started on it tomorrow. Once "Green Hill Zone (disambiguation)" has been updated into a hub style page, might it be worth renaming it to "Green Hill Zone", and renaming the Sonic 1 level to "Green Hill Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit))"? The nested parentheses are a bit much, but we'd have to do that for the Sonic 1 8-bit/16-bit enemies anyway. I'm mainly keeping enemies in mind, since they're more recurring than Zones are, and would have more hub pages. --Pecky (talk) 16:46, 7 March 2020 (EST)
Yes that would be the plan - Green Hill Zone, Green Hill Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit)), Green Hill Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)) etc. -Black Squirrel (talk) 07:50, 8 March 2020 (EDT)
That does bring a question to mind when it comes to titles with brackets. Are we still using only one set of brackets for titles like we've always done (e.g. "Special Stage (Sonic the Hedgehog 16-bit)"), or will we be transitioning to having multiple sets (like "Special Stage (Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit))? The latter seems a little messy to me, but I'm not sure. --BSonirachi (talk) 10:46, 8 March 2020 (EDT)
I'm easy either way, although there's also the question of Sega Retro's page, sega:Sonic the Hedgehog (Mega Drive), which might be preferable to "16-bit" -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:47, 8 March 2020 (EDT)
I've updated Green Hill Zone (disambiguation). It'd probably look tidier if the level list was a table, so I'll try to get around to that at some point. Should it be renamed to Green Hill Zone now? Sonic Forces is something of an issue with its stage naming convention. For example, the first level is called:
Stage 1
Green Hill
Lost Valley
Essentially, each stage is given a stage number, an area and a level name. Sometimes the latter two are the same (Stage 10, Green Hill, Green Hill). Currently the wiki isn't fully set up to accommodate this. Ghost Town has City in its location field, but I don't think the other locations have pages yet. A lot of these areas have familiar names - Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Metropolis, Death Egg. Perhaps Green Hill (Sonic Forces area), Metropolis (Sonic Forces area) and so on would be good equivalents for the City page? I'd have to look into whether Sonic Forces has an official terminology for these areas/regions/locations though.
Speaking of Death Egg, I think that should probably get the same treatment as Green Hill. Currently we have pages for Death Egg and Death Egg (disambiguation). I don't think there's a need for both, and will incorporate the latter into the former, if that's okay? Chemical Plant, Seaside Hill, Rooftop Run and other frequently recurring stages would probably benefit from similar treatment.
I'm keen to get started on the enemy pages, but I'm a little hesitant until we're all on the same page regarding brackets and 16-bit vs Mega Drive, 8-bit vs Game Gear/Master System, etc. I don't want to end up creating more work for anyone else later. --Pecky (talk) 10:28, 15 March 2020 (EDT)
I've avoided Sonic Forces so don't know much about that game - do whatever you think is best.
And yes something similar should probably be done about Death Egg. There could be a few of these - Casino Night looks like another, Chemical Plant as well. -Black Squirrel (talk) 12:42, 15 March 2020 (EDT)
I've updated the Death Egg page. This one was a little different, because it's both a level and an object that appears in other levels. The Sonic 1 Green Hill Zone page needs renaming to be game-specific, and the Green Hill Zone (disambiguation) page needs to become Green Hill Zone or Green Hill. Giant Mech also needs to be renamed, since its official name circa 1992 is "Death Egg". --Pecky (talk) 11:33, 23 March 2020 (EDT)
I made a page for Buzz Bomber (Sonic the Hedgehog 16-bit), as an example of how these game specific enemy pages could look going forward. Would we still want "affiliation" on these ("Eggman Empire" wasn't a thing in Sonic 1, but "Dr. Eggman" might suffice)? I couldn't figure out how to properly align the text to the images in the gallery. Anything else that should be changed? --Pecky (talk) 12:34, 29 March 2020 (EDT)
