PsychoSk8r had discovered many insignificant sonic hacks, and websites before the reconnection which give him none of the information he needed. So after a very breif time digging, he found the Sonic Game Modification Community. This site helped him with everything he needed to know to get a hack off the ground. After a month or so hacking, he decided to start his own hacking community, not as competition for the SGMC, but as a friend.

The Rise and Fall of RetroHack
PsychoSk8r got lucky, and signed a contract with an old accomplice for Web Hosting, and got it at a cheap rate (£15 per month) for 1tb space and bandwidth. This helped his plans for a hacking website.

The name RetroHack was thought of off the top of PsychoSk8r's head, he didn't want Sonic in the title, as he wanted it not just to be a sonic-based hacking community, but to be open to other hacks too.

RetroHack started as a PHPBB based forum, and attracted a few members. After a fortnight of being up, due to the software, the board was spammed. This led to the decision of Switching to IPB.

Once RetroHack was switched to IPB, it gained a better look and feel, and opened up more forums for members to talk about things other than hacking. After a good 5 months, the server failed.

The Ressurection
After 9 days of downtime, PsychoSk8r had got together with the host, to talk about what could be done. After the discussion, plans of moving to a new server were put into immediate action. After a few days, the hosting was back.

PsychoSk8r wasn't too pleased with the idea of a complete restart, so after hunting through 500gb of data, he found minor pieces of the old RetroHack, and decided to completely restart, only bringing back certain things from the old RetroHack.

RetroHack reopened on the 12th February 2008, at 5:30pm GMT, supporting a new, sleek design, with subtle references to the old RetroHack theme. Shortly after reopening, a favorite skin among members, "SGMC-like" had returned, with the approval of OrdosAlpha.

The Plans
Current plans for the website include:

¤ A Mini-Wiki (Possibly), where members can post a download/screenshot/page about their hacks. The better hacks from the Mini-Wiki will be given either their own RetroHack "Featured Hack" Page, possibly even their own subsite, if the creator is willing to put in the effort.

¤ A breif history section of each of the Sonic Games, where PsychoSk8r will give his own opinion on each of the games, and provide screenshots, cheats etc

¤ Artwork from a Chosen Artist at RetroHack

¤ This one's just a concept at the moment, but a Music Archive, MP3 Format.

¤ Lots and Lots of Sonic Hacking guides, some PsychoSk8r will personally be writing, even be writing about the tricks he uses to create new features in Sonic 1. To put simple, a way of thinking.

¤ A FrontPage, every site's gotta have one, this is where the News will be kept, for you forum addict's who've never seen a frontpage =P

¤ A breif personal review of some unmissable hacks.

¤ 200mb webspace for the hack's that look promising, only for the people who will be bothered to update their site.

¤ Last but not least, Possibly the Most Complete Sonic Emulation section you'll ever see, including the Likes of Sonic Jam, Sonic R (Saturn), SA1&2, the megadrive series, the Advance/DS series, And possibly with luck, even the GC/XBOX series. Due to some demand, there may also be downloads for the PC versions of the games.

Rediscovery

PsychoSk8r first discovered Sonic CulT back in December 2002, while looking for Sonic ROMs shortly after rediscovering his love for Sonic the Hedgehog. Shortly after discovering the site, he found a link to the forums, and registered on January 3rd, 2003.

He was amazed with the information found in there, and continued to visit a few times a day. He started off just as you'd expect an idiot to start. He then read the rules, abode by them, and slowly learned the ways of the Sonic Community.

Unfortunately, 18 months after joining, his internet connection was cut, meaning he had no way of accessing his addictive hobby.

Reconnection

PsychoSk8r continued to access Sonic CulT once every 1-2 months, through public internet connections. Late in 2005, he was thrown out of his home due to his "gothic" look, as it was too "rebellious" towards his mother's religious beliefs. He jumped from house to house every night, thanks to the help of some close friends. He never spent a single night on the streets. Towards August/September 2007, he moved into his current home with his father; and, soon enough, regained stable access to the internet.

The very first thing he did was visit Sonic CulT's forums. By this time, Sonic CulT had already been sold, as PACHUKA had announced in late 2004. Under the new management of Sazpaimon, he believed the website to be just as much community-centered as it was before he had lost internet access. PsychoSk8r felt at home.

The Sonic Hacking scene

PsychoSk8r had discovered many insignificant Sonic hacks and websites before the "reconnection"; however, none of them gave him the information he needed. After a very brief period of searching, he found the Sonic Game Modification Community. This site helped him learn everything he needed to know to get a hack off the ground. After a month or so of hacking, he decided to start his own hacking community, RetroHack; not as competition for the SGMC, but as a friendly affiliate.

Today

PsychoSk8r remains an active member of many different Sonic the Hedgehog ROM hacking communities, such as SGMC, Sonic Retro, and Sonic CulT. His own ROM hack, the Sonic 1 Modernization Project, appears to be progressing well, though its current status is unknown.
