Episode Summary

On board the Blue Typhoon, Chris awakens from dreams of Shadow's sacrifice at Space Colony ARK. He has kept Shadow's limiter on a shelf by his bed, and when Tails calls him to the bridge, he takes it with him.

Meanwhile, Rouge finds a Chaos Emerald powering a stasis pod in Dr. Eggman's spacecraft. When she tries to take it, an alarm goes off, and Eggman confronts her. He allows her to stay on board as a guest, but forbids her from touching the stasis pod: Shadow is inside it, and Eggman has not been able to wake him up.

The Blue Typhoon arrives at Planet Hobidon, which has already lost its Planet Egg; there are many mechanical ruins on it, but no life. They split into landing parties to investigate, and Sonic, Amy, and Knuckles find a large, eerie house. As they explore it, tracking the signal from a Chaos Emerald inside, the house becomes disorienting in haunted-house fashion, trapping them in a room with no exits.

Chris and Cosmo explore the ruins of a space station. They uncover a video log describing how the Metarex invaded the planet, and that the space colony was the inhabitants' last (failed) attempt to revive it. The ruined space colony reminds Chris of ARK, and he mentions the incident to Cosmo, wondering what Shadow might think of their fight against the Metarex.

When Tails loses Sonic's signal, Chris flies to the rescue, and they find that the haunted house was an illusion created by a grey, fluidic Metarex. Eggman watches from his own ship as Sonic and Knuckles fight it, planning to take the Emerald on the planet once everyone else is exhausted. Eventually Tails locates the Metarex's core, and Chris guides Sonic to it with rocket shoes and a "Ring Road" beam-tunnel resembling the gold energy pathways in Sonic & Knuckles' Death Egg Zone. Sonic takes heavy damage in the core, and when Chris enters to rescue him, all the Chaos Emeralds in the planet's vicinity begin to glow--as well as Shadow's limiter, which Chris still has with him.

Shadow awakens and breaks out of his pod with a dramatic explosion, then uses the Emerald that once powered it to Chaos Control to the Metarex, destroy it, take the Chaos Emerald it was guarding, and return to Eggman with both Emeralds. Once there, however, he collapses, unable to pace his energy usage without his limiters.
