Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (beta 4)/Comparisons

Unified comparison pages?

Would it be better to create unified comparison pages for Betas 4-8, considering that with only days (and sometimes only hours) separating each build, the changes are far less significant, and the core feature set is largely identical to the final game (save for bug-fixes and minor missing features)? Having each build have their own comparison page might get a little excessive when I think about it. The Cutting Room Floor has done unified pages for those builds, so it would seem like a good idea for Retro to do it too. --BSonirachi (talk) 12:34, 28 April 2018 (CDT)

I don't like TCRF's approach - it goes back and forth between different builds, so if you wanted to know exactly what was different in Beta 5, you'd have to sort through content related to 4, 6, 7 and 8. I think we should be excessive.
That being said I agree there needs to be a smarter way of handling minor differences that exist in two or more builds, so we're not repeating ourselves. The cleanest method I can think of is to wrap things in <section> tags - see sega:Template:CategoryIntro on Sega Retro. -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:19, 28 April 2018 (CDT)
So yeah I would expect there to be quite a lot of duplicate content. When that happens wrap the oldest comparison in section tags with a name:
<section begin=something /> ... <section end=something />
and then do:
{{ComparisonRecall|PAGE|SECTIONNAME}}
and then boom:

All early versions of Sonic 2 use a different title screen. Sonic and Tails are not animated, and the background is borrowed from Emerald Hill Zone, scrolling to the left in a similar manner to the original Sonic the Hedgehog. No menu system has been implemented by this point.

There might be a cleaner method out there. Either way I'll find a solution to the incorrect title(s) at some point - don't worry bout that. -Black Squirrel (talk) 13:52, 28 April 2018 (CDT)
Hmmm, I suppose that could work. --BSonirachi (talk) 14:01, 28 April 2018 (CDT)
