Sonic X-treme

From Sonic Retro

To do

  • Find the original issues for Sonic X-treme/Magazine articles.
  • Rename Sonic X-treme (Point Of View) to decapitalize "Of".
  • Remove Sonic-16 from Omni. It's unrelated, and its "influence" is already covered in Development.
  • Remove Untitled STI Sonic game, merge with Sonic Mars.
  • Add everything from: dumped/preserved material, here1, here2, here3, here4, here5, here6
  • Might want to think about consolidating some pages. The History section of Sonic Mars could easily be worked into Sonic X-treme/Development (leaving the same MainArticle redirects as other development eras), but that would mean reorganizing how we approach this pages. And I don't have Move permission.
  • No we should DEFINITELY consolidate some stuff. I went to reread Development, and unless you're navigating using the omni, you're having to hop all over the place and infer a lot to get back to the beginning (Mars/Development). If this were Sega Retro, we'd combine Mars and X-treme, and just have them addressed as different parts of the same development process - but importantly, on 1 page. Right now, it's split between 2 pages, which means double the amount of subpages, and double the amount of potential confusion for wiki readers. The real question is: Are Mars and X-treme different enough concepts to justify them being split? This doesn't need to happen right away.
  • The actual "Development" section on this page that links to the subpage needs basically the equivalent of a big neon arrow saying "click this to start reading the history" in the form of a compelling inline and
  • Combine those split pdfs already, we need page refs.

New mirror

Also, if you've been living under a rock or something, I have (yet another!) mirror of Xtreme at http://info.sonicretro.org/images/large/Xtreme.rar . I'm in the process of adding it to Retro's media handling system manually right now. — Scarred Sun 11:42, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

UPDATE: Turns out, someone else thought of this pain in the ass long ago and wrote a script that will do just this, but it's made specifically for multiple large files. I'm adding some more large files onto the server for inclusion—if you have something over 6MB that you think should be on the site (at the moment, I'm going to put up 510, 712, 920, the CD 409 hoax, and Sonic Adventure Gaiden), contact me. — Scarred Sun 12:03, 17 July 2007 (CDT)

Redo

I was actually going to add in the references myself but... ooh it's messy. I think I might have tackled this once before, pushing things off into Sonic X-treme/Development, but I'm now wondering if it's worth dividing this up further.

There is

  • All the early Mega Drive and 32X guff that shouldn't really be described on this page since they're covered elsewhere
  • A sort-of "main branch" Sonic X-treme, being fronted by Ofer Alon and Chris Senn, and is the X-treme we know and love
  • The Point Of View (POV) attempt, which is essentially a tangent that didn't go anywhere
  • Project Condor, the "lets build everything with the boss engine" version, fronted by Christina Coffin and pals
