Conflicting Release Dates

An advertisement/contest in the Sonic R Official Guide says the release date is 21 January 1998 (the same date on the back cover scan). The Sega.jp web page in the references has a 17 October 1997 release date (before the game was released). Is there any way of determining which one is correct, and why there are two dates? --Pecky (talk) 16:40, 21 June 2019 (EDT)

The cover is more likely to be right (in my opinion). I've changed it. - Hivebrain (talk) 20:58, 21 June 2019 (EDT)
