Super Shadow

Super Shadow is the assumed name for the form Shadow took at the end of Sonic Adventure 2, based on the use of the "Super" prefix for Super Sonic and Super Knuckles. He seems to have abilities identical to those of Super Sonic. In this form, his fur turns a pearly silver, though it retains the red highlights like normal.

Shadow becomes Super Shadow for the first and, so far,last time at the end of Sonic Adventure 2, as he and Sonic must team up to defeat the Final Hazard. Throughout the fight, the player hears comments from Sonic that indicate Shadow is losing his strength, and even Shadow himself admits he's having difficulty retaining such power. After the battle with Final Hazard, Super Shadow and Super Sonic use Chaos Control on the entire space colony ARK, saving the Earth from the collision. However, Shadow, in his already weakened state, uses the rest of his strenghth to do so and falls to Earth. His current where-a-bouts, and whether he's even alive, are unknown.

Supposedly, considering Shadow's recent return in Sonic Heroes, he is alive, but said game also raises the possibility of Shadow "clones". It is not known when or if Super Shadow will be used again.

He is seen in Shadow mode of the Sonic game in Sega Superstars after collecting the 7 Chaos Emeralds.

Misconceptions

Super Shadow is often wrongly called "Hyper Shadow" because of various unofficial websites and strategy guides misprinting it as Hyper Shadow. Much to the outrage of many longtime Sonic veterans, younger and new fans or players of the series call him Hyper Shadow, and claim it is his real name because "it sounds better", or "it makes him different than Sonic". However, there are numerous facts that support the Super Shadow name, whilst "Hyper Shadow" has his name alone:

• Sonic, Shadow, and the other character plainly call Sonic and Shadow's forms Super forms during the Finalhazard fight. ("Shadow! You're almost out of rings! You'll lose your Super form!" - Super Sonic; Sonic Adventure 2

• Sonic and Shadow used the Chaos Emeralds to transform. In Sonic 3 & Knuckles(The only game to have Hyper forms) Chaos Emeralds are used to acheive a Super form.(Sonic becomes Super Sonic; Knuckles becomes Super Knuckles) Collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds by the start of Zone 7 allows the player to try for the Super Emeralds.(You lose your Chaos Emeralds when this happens, as they are left in the Hidden Palace) These emeralds enable Sonic to become Hyper Sonic, and Knuckles to become Hyper Knuckles.

The only exception to this rule is Tails, who is too young to harness the Chaos Emeralds correctly. He achieves nothing with all the Chaos Emeralds, and becomes Super Tails with the Super Emeralds.

• The skin files of Shadow's Super form within the Sonic Adventure 2 game itself are named "SSHadow.jpg", which cannot stand for Hyper Shadow.
