The Spiral UpperMedia:SonicAdvance3 GBA US manual.pdf[1] (スパイラルアッパー), also known as the Spiral Uppercut[2], is a move performed by Knuckles the Echidna. It is a variation of Knuckles' Punch Attacks that involves an uppercut into the air.

Game appearances

Sonic Adventure 2

In Sonic Adventure 2 and its re-releases, the Spiral Upper is performed by rotating the Control Stick in a 360-degree motion while Knuckles is on the ground, then pressing the Action button. Knuckles will then leap upwards into the air with more height than a regular jump, punching whatever is above him. This can be used to take out enemies or containers that are directly above him. Like with Knuckles' other offensive moves, the Spiral Upper can be upgraded to break steel containers with the Hammer Gloves.

Rouge's version of the move is the Screw Kick.

Sonic Advance 2

The Spiral Upper appears in Sonic Advance 2 as one of Knuckles' Trick Actions, specifically his Big Air Trick Action, executed by pressing Up+R when launching from a gimmick. Unlike other Big Air Trick Actions, this move is also capable of attacking enemies in mid-air. Boost Mode will also be preserved when using the move.

Sonic Advance 3

In Sonic Advance 3, Knuckles is able to perform the Spiral Upper as a ground-based attack by pressing B when he is paired with Tails, replacing his standard Double Punch attack. It functions similarly to the uppercut at the end of his three-punch combo from Sonic Advance and doesn't get as much of a jump as it does in Sonic Adventure 2, however it makes up for it by having a wider hitbox.
