Throughout Sonic Chaos, and in a marked change of his tactics from other early games, our old friend Doctor Robotnik apparently thinks he's too important to face Sonic or Tails personally (until the last boss). Instead the Doctor deploys larger, tougher, nastier badniks as boss robots. Aqua Planet Zone's boss features an old friend. Remember those tiny, annoying, bullet-shaped birdbots from Sky High Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)? Well, they're back. This leaping sphere of a boss starts by sending a wave of the minature badniks against Sonic / Tails, and proceeds to periodically spit out more like torpedoes for you to dodge. Once you've done enough damage to destroy the upper hemisphere, yet more of the metallic critters spew forth as missiles.

Sphere-o-BotMedia:SonicChaos GG US manual.pdf[1], which goes unnamed in the Japanese version, is the fifth boss of Sonic Chaos, fought at the end of Aqua Planet Zone.

Strategy

This boss fight begins with a wave of Mecha Hiyokos going after Sonic/Tails. Once they have been destroyed, the Sphere-o-Bot itself will appear and attack the player directly by bouncing around and shooting waves of projectiles similar to the Bouncy Boss Robot. The player must not only avoid being trampled on, but also being shot at, and repeatedly jump on the head as many times as they can.

After hitting the head enough times, the top hemisphere will detach from the body, and the Sphere-o-Bot will resort to firing Mecha Hiyokos like torpedoes at the player. These Badnik missiles fly from everywhere, so the player must be quick on the draw and avoid them at all costs. When they stop firing, the Sphere-o-Bot will return to fire another round of Mecha Hiyokos, and this is the player's chance to land the final hit. After destroying the boss, the player will move on to the final Zone, Electric Egg Zone.
