The Special Stage in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II takes the half-pipe stages from Sonic 2 and the Saturn version of Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island.

Gameplay

Sonic and Tails have to work together to get enough Rings to pass the goals and reach the Chaos Emerald. If they don't have enough Rings, they fail out of the stage. Along with boosters and ring-collector sections, springs have been added which change Sonic and Tails to new half-pipe tracks entirely, allowing for new areas to gather Rings. Bombs are also joined by electric diamonds which freeze the player, but don't remove Rings.
