Special Stage (Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I)
Special level, Sonic the Hedgehog 4
Number of Acts: 7
The Special Stage in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is very similar to the Special Stage in Sonic 1 - it seems to be a rotating maze with bumpers and blocks, and presumably a Chaos Emerald hidden somewhere on each stage.

However, it is not a direct copy. Instead of Sonic 1's gameplay, where the player moves in the maze, the player moves the maze itself, while Sonic falls constantly. The controls have been revealed to be motion control for Wii and PS3, and the L and R Triggers for 360. In addition, There will be an accumulating but decrease-able time limit, and Sonic will have to collect a predetermined number of rings in the stage before he can obtain the Chaos Emerald.

It has been rumored that the motion controls can be disabled for a more traditional control scheme for the stage, but has not been confirmed yet.
