Taking the appearance of golden Rings with stars in the middle and wings on their sides, there are seven Special Rings in each Act of the game. Each Special Ring collected by the player is displayed as a small yellow dot below the player's score and Ring counters on the HUD. In order to access the Special Stage, the player must collect all seven Special Rings in an Act and reach the goal. Dying at any point will cause the player to lose all of the Special Rings they have found. As all seven Special Rings must be collected in a single life, and that the player has to take a specific route through each Act to find them all, this can be a difficult task.

Additionally, collecting Special Rings will also award the player bonus points at the end of an Act. 1,000 points are awarded for each Special Ring the player finishes with, with 10,000 points being awarded if the player has found all of them.
