Sonic 2 CD (alternatively named Super Sonic) is a unreleased game for the Sega CD. Originally it was planned to be released simultaneously with the Mega Drive version but instead it was cancelled all together. Unlike Sonic CD, which was a whole new game rather than a port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, this game was to be an enhanced port of the genesis version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The game was to have CD quality music and additional levels that the Mega Drive counterpart did not. Also shown during the demonstration were cartoon like cutscenes displayed as intermissions.
There has been some discussion that Sonic 2 CD was actually Sonic CD as some people involved in Sonic 2's development that have been contacted by Sonic fans could not remember a CD port. This would mean several magazines have unknowingly printed false information or information that actually pertains to Sonic CD.
