The special stages in beta 4 are functional, but would go on to see further refinements leading up to the final release. In this prototype, every stage has a different colour scheme, and many of the object placements are different.
In beta 4, Tails is always referred to as "Miles" regardless of which region the console is set to.
General comparisons
Each special stage has palette issues, with the highlights on the floor often briefly changing colour mid-stage.
There are no "x rings to go" messages when nearing the end of a section.
In two player mode, the text "WIN TWICE WIN ALL!" appears instead of "MOST RINGS WINS!" mid-way through the competition.
